Wow! Great show tonight by Jimmy as he kicked off the winter leg of the tour. First off, I will begin with the setlist and yes, he did play some new songs from the upcoming CD. Which by the way, he said during the show is titled
"Beach HOUSE on the Moon" and it is due out in May.

As you can see it is basically the same list as the summer tour, with the addition of the two new songs. Which I might add sounded great! The first
one "Gumbo" has a heavy drum and harmonica sound to it (kinda a rock feel,
like a touch of old Buffett and not the '90's stuff). It sounded great, and was accompanied by a video of Jimmy playing his guitar out in front of the Nashville arena with a "WILL PLAY 4 GUMBO" cardboard sign by his guitar case. Good stuff.
The second song "Oysters and Pearls" was a great song as well, with a much slow er, I guess ballad type of song. Once again, great stuff!
A few more notes as well....
He really seemed to be enjoying himself tonight and the crowd was really into it as well. For instance after he finished "Knees of my heart" he
(accidentally?) played the first chord of "Grapefruit Juicy fruit" and the crowd went nuts. He got a big kick out of that and said..."Wow! True fans!" Then he said.."That was the short version, now I'll play the long version" and
kicked into it.
As mentioned, he did say the new album would be out in May and is titled "Beach HOUSE on the moon". As for any mess ups, his microphone went out at the start of "Jamaica..", but quickly came back on. Also, during the song, they showed a video of Jimmy water skiing behind his plane! The crowd loved it. Right befor e, "We are the people" he thanked everyone for a wonderful 30
years and declared the people in the back of the arena the "Lawn people of the
indoors!" LOL
The stage was set up just like last tour, but no back drops, so anywh ere in the place was a great seat! The neat part was when they came out for the second half it was just Jimmy and Fingers playing acoustically to the back of
the arena for two or three songs on a little platform (kinda like they did at
the start of the Banana Wind tour). Also, every memb er of the CRB was th ere as well, just like the summer tour. And for the t-shirt people out
there, they are the exact same as the summer tour as well. Nothing new in the T-shirt and hat department.
I guess in closing, the show was really good. Much better then the two shows I saw in Atlanta off of last Summers tour. The crowd was into it and Jimmy was really into it as well. Finally, he thanked Nashville for being a "Wonderful opening night crowd!" and left....

Great stuff all around tonight!

Madison Square Garden, NYC - 2/22

I'll make this brief.
I just got in. It's 3:30AM and I am tired, but I know you folks just won't
live without tonight's set list.

Kinja
Fruitcakes
Bank of Bad Habits
Knees of my Heart
Grapefruit Juicy Fruit
Come Monday
Brown Eyed Girl
Jamaica Mistaka
Creola ---BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!
Changes in Attitudes
Math Suks ---I don't care for this one, though others in my party loved it!
Last Mango in Paris
All about the Water
Kinja (reprise)
Intermission-Club Trini doing Trini Style or Party time, I don't remember
and didn't write it down. BTW, Club Trini cancelled the pre-show package.
Wally (of Orlando magic) tried to get the crowd going singing Club Trini's
back in town, but it didn't catch on. Wally and Tim were cool as always. We
think they cancelled due to the biting cold. Someone mentioned not being
able to keep the pans tuned. Don't know, thought heat was what would make
them go (at least that was the way it was with the instruments I played, but
then I've never played steel pans!)
Caribbbean Amphibian
(2nd half)
Son of a Son of a Sailor
Oysters and Pearls.--- I really liked this one, as did Marc: His comment "I
don't know a word he sang, but it sounded nice" I heard quite a bit of the
lyrics and really do like it. Despite being new and unknown, it was a real
crowd pleaser. This one will be a concert perennial I think. Jimmy needs a
few more ballads, and this one hits the mark. GOPs will love it!
Pirate looks at 40
WDWGDAS--- Yes, he brought out two New Yorkers to do the goofy part
Mexico
In the city (Mac MacAnally)
One Particular Harbor
Margaritaville
Southern cross
Fins
Volcano
---
We Are the People (our parents warned us about)
---
Green Flash at aSunset
Time To Go Home, Norman--- He brought out the entire cast from the play.
They were also onstage at the beginning of the show, along with the Steel
Pan Band from Trinidad (That he worte about in PLA50). He was tickled pink
that the entire cast of DSTC from Coconut Grove was there. Kathy (?) the
woman who played Hettie sang some, though not nearly enough. Tina has a
dynamite voice, I now know from DSTC, but I would have loved to have heard
more of the woman who gave it voice at Coconut Grove.

No sign of Mose Allison, unless I didn't hear something. The acoustics this
year were horrible. Very muddy. Hard to understand anything he said.

A couple more brief notes. Saw half of everyone we ever knew at Mustang
Harry's Every two minutes someone came over to our table to greet us! The
couple next to us must have wondered who the hell we were! I don't think
they were parrotheads! Saw Alex and Looney, of course, and more than a few
other fine folks. But best of all.....

During Parrotvision when he shows us what we look like to them (during
CIACIL) who should appear in living color but......

MARYA BOLYANATZ (I hope I spelled it right!)

And THAT, folks was the high point of the evening!

G'night!

Meadowland 2/26/99 Show Review

By Parrothead Phil
It’s been a hell of a weekend. On Friday I got an early start on my way to see Buffett (for the first time in the winter) at the Meadowlands. In the beginning the crowd was quiet. Bubba even asked if everyone “had started too early in the afternoon.” However, things picked up when the crowd went crazy after hearing just the first two notes of “Grapefruit - Juicyfruit.” Things continued to improve as several hundred members of the audience formed a conga line. Jimmy engaged the crowd by making reference to the party-goers as they danced around the perimeter of the arena. It proved to be a good show, as the place became moderately loud by the middle of the second set. In addition to the typical concert favorites, Jimmy performed two rare gems: “Creola” which had a tranquilizing sound and “King of Somewhere Hot” which sounded great, despite the lackluster enthusiasm from the crowd.
