Weakness in the CRB?

Post by trojan_sixtyone »

Does anyone feel that there are any particular weaknesses in the CRB? With most bands you'll get several solid units and one that is at times shaky. But, all things considered, I feel like the CRB is as solid a band as a modern musician could ask for. They are all accomplished musicians in their own right.

What do you guys think?

Fingers is kinda weak, but the back surgery is supposed to be taking care of that.

Yes.

If there's a weakness, it's that we don't hear them performing their own music enough. Let's get more records and tours by the members of the CRB! :D

The only weakness I can see is Heather doesn't get nearly enough time on stage.

Let me pose yet another question: once Jimmy packs it in (or slows down considerably) do you guys think there is a chance for the CRB (or some number of them) to stick together, either full-time or just time-to-time (Freddie and the Fishsticks style) and tour or record albums? I tend to believe that some of the guys would want to do that, but that others may seek new roads to travel, especially Mac.

Thoughts?

I think the Coral Reefer Band is one of the best bands in the business today. They are all accomplished musicians and can play many types of music...rock,blues,regge,jazz,acoustic, you name it, they can play it! I would love to see more Club Trini shows since it's basically the band without Buffett! I would also love to see Mac and Peter tour together. I love the way their voices harmonize when they sing together. ( Listen to "Meanwhile" on Mac's cd - Semi-true Stories.) AND they can both "let it rip" on their guitar's!!!

well, they are easily led. And when the puckish, "Seamus O' Utley" comes out to play... it's an episode of "Cops" just waiting to happen. :D

The current band has their strengths but I feel they'd be reinforced by the talents of Sonny Landreth if he were ever to become a permanent Reefer. Personally, I prefer the You Had To Be There version of the Coral Reefers when there seemed to more of a band dymanic between Buffett and the Reefers.

I really do think Tina's voice is starting to go. If you listen to the Fenway CD there are more than a few moments when you hear a really bad note being hit, and it's her all the time.

The CRB, in some version, is my choice for when the Buffett Caravan stops touring. Between their originals, some of which Jimmy has recorded, and a hanful of covers on their own, I think it would be a great show. You could easily put a 30 song set list together.

Couldn't agree more! I've been amazed for some time that there is SO MUCH talent on stage every time JB takes the stage. When you look at Peter, Jim, Mac, Robert, Ralph, Roger and Mr. Utley, that's got to be one of the strongest line-ups in the business (if not THE strongest). :pirate:
