Living in Miami I still frequently watch the video, "Live by the bay". I still admire the talents of Josh Leo and Vince Melemed. I also do think that Timothy B. Schmidt, while a talented musician, was really not into this project.

I just got this video and am wondering also, why some of these people left either by choice or not. We know about Fingers, but what about the rest of them? I've just started plowing through this forum, so maybe will find the answers eventually.

Glad he was there to give us parrotheads a name. He was basically just filling in for Harry Dailey while he was mending a broken leg or something. Stayed for 2 tours though.

Kay, I'm not trying to downplay all the dynamics of band members coming and going with Jimmy and Mike Utley, but I think Jimmy wanted to go another direction with PM (Mayers and Guth) when he hired them. I understand that "in his own way" Jimmy has still "remembered" those that were in the band with him in the past.

It was interesting to listen to Jimmy's comment during the Nashville concert when he introduced Marshall Chapman and talked about having all the old Coral Reefers join him for a show. NOW THAT's a GREAT concept...even if he just does them one at time. (Makes me think and remember all those Coral Reefers who have ~~sailed on~~)

Back to the original topic...Live By The Bay is THE most REPLAYED for me. I was lucky enough to find it on laser disc and that made it THAT much more enjoyable through the years. Sounds like a good one for today.

Timothy B. Schmidt went to play with the Eagles. Josh and Vince went on to join my friend, Jim Photoglo and formed the Vinyl Kings. Josh posts on here periodically. He is a successful producer in Nashville.

Jimmy has stated, in a number of different interviews that he had decided to change the direction of the band and hired PM on the recommendation of some friends. I don't get the sense that it was due to personality issues or anything along those lines. Just a simple desire to change the direction of his band.

It's a great video at a unique venue. I wish that it would come out on cd because it's a classic.

Timothy B. Schmidt went to play with the Eagles.

Actually, Timothy B was a Coral Reefer in between Eagles gigs. . . He was with them from '77 to '80 (when they "broke up") and then again when they started up again in 1990.

"After the Eagles broke up in 1980, Schmit embarked on a solo career, singing vocals and playing bass for hire during studio sessions. His voice can be heard on many hits, including Bob Seger's "Fire Lake" and Boz Scaggs' "Look What You've Done To Me" (each with Frey and Henley), Don Felder's "Heavy Metal (Takin' A Ride) (with Henley), and Crosby, Stills and Nash's "Southern Cross", where he sang harmony due to David Crosby's drug overindulgence. He was also a background musician on two of Don Henley's hit songs, "Dirty Laundry" and "You Don't Know Me at All".

Schmit teamed with his predecessor in both Poco and the Eagles, Randy Meisner, along with their mutual Eagles bandmate Joe Walsh, to provide background vocals to the 1987 Richard Marx hit "Don't Mean Nothing". Schmit also performed on the Toto 1983 hit singles "I Won't Hold You Back" and "Africa", and the Jars Of Clay song "Everything In Between". He also played on the 1983 Glenn Shorrock solo album. In 1991 Schmit donated a track to the Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead soundtrack titled 'I Only Have Eyes For You'.

In 1996, Schmit sang on a cover version of The Beach Boys' 1966 song "Caroline, No" on their album Stars and Stripes Vol. 1, with the Beach Boys themselves contributing harmonies. Schmit also toured with Jimmy Buffett, in 1983, 1984, and 1985 as a member of the Coral Reefer Band. Schmit was the one who coined the term "Parrotheads" for the Buffett fans. "

Maybe if and when he decides to call it quits, probably do one final tour with the old ones that are still around. Either that or at the very last concert, do more than one date, and then bring them back.
