My apologies if this thread already exists here, but I couldn't find it so here we go...... :pirate:

I love beer and especially brews that are available seasonally (yes, Virginia, even beer has its seasons)..... :wink:

Yesterday a buddy of mine gave me a case of Michelob's limited run Winter's Bourbon Cask Ale (yeah, it's nice to have buddies like this).... [smilie=coolup.gif] Here's the web site link: http://www.michelob.com/ExploreSeasonalWinter.aspx

Neither of us are huge Michelob fans, but he said he had recently tried this and found it to be "quite good". With ABV of 6%, it is a beer to enjoy, not pound down! :roll:

I'll try one when I get home from work tonight, but was curious if other BNers had tried this beer?

What other seasonal beers do you recommend?

It's Troegs Mad Elf for me. A word of caution, 11% AVB!
I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now!

Great Lakes Christmas Ale is my favorite. We can't even keep the stuff on our shelves where I work because it's so popular. Pretty much every store in the area is out because it sells so fast. My sister's bar is selling it for $10 for a tall draft because, well, people will still buy it. Yum...it's good.

Also, Lump of Coal (not sure who makes it) is quite good. Has anyone ever tried it?

I tried this one. Not a fan. It tasted like they melted a scoop of vanilla in it to me.

Ok, let me see what I can pull out of memory...

During the spring and summer, I am a HUGE fan of Vacationland from Gritty's (Maine). Great beer to kick back with after mowing the lawn, weeding, or walking into the kitchen.

Once Autumn gets here, I go straight for Pumpkinhead Ale (shout out to The Porch for carrying it and enjoyed a couple of weeks ago). Usually, I get Shipyard (Maine), but i did find a lonesome 6 pack from Smuttynose (NH) so I felt bad and picked it up. It was a long drive so I am waiting for it to get cold.

Now that winter is fast approaching, I am looking forward to a cold Hibernator from Long Trail Ale (VT). Honorable mention goes to Double Bag from Long Trail when I have had a really crappy day that I want to forget about.

My wife thought it was "silly" for me to be constantly changing the beers I buy during the year......but then she's not a beer drinker! :o They just don't understand..... :roll: :pirate:

We are pretty lucky in NE with all the microbrews and brewpubs. Boston Beer Works and Salem Beer Works has some good stuff as well, but only available in growlers.

I don't drink wine, I do beer. And you actually don't have an option, seasonal beers are seasonal, you have to keep changing/trying different types.

The Boston Beer Co./Sam Adams has crafted some very good seaonal beers......their Winter Lager is available locally on draft and very good: http://www.samueladams.com/enjoy-our-be ... fbeb5593e4

Boston Beer was at the forefront of the craft brewing industry and, despite the company's growth, has kept its quality at a high level.

Toffee brown, medium-bodied, with a creamy head and an aroma of raisins and freshly baked dark bread. Mild Winter’s rich caramel malt and spicy rye flavors are sure to take the bite out of whatever Old Man Winter brews up for you this year.

So many different beers to try around the country, so little time........ :o :roll: :pirate:

I do feel that the smaller, regional craft brewers are the future of beer........many people have had enough of the bland, commercial brews.

Sorry, but, yes, Landshark is in that category. It's an OK beer to pound down after mowing the lawn or at a JB concert, but when I really want to simply enjoy a fine beer......I'll take a craft brew any day! :pirate:

Just tried Thirsty Dog's 12 Dogs of Christmas out of Akron, OH this past weekend. It is very good!

Also, I'm trying to get Troeg's Mad Elf where I work since it got such rave reviews in this thread.

I agree! A nice craft brew is an awesome reward at the end of the day. It is kind of like supporting the "local" economy as compared to big box stores. Give me something made with passion any day of the week.

I'll second that sentiment! The many craft brews have really opened peoples' eyes (and tastebuds) to what beers can be. Do I enjoy all of the seasonal brews I try? No, but I enjoy the experience! :pirate:

Walked into the beer distributer yesterday and they have 19 cases of Mad Elf on sale for $49.99.
That's a little cheaper than usual. :pirate:
