Just found this recipe. It is delicious!!
French Onion Soup Meat Loaf with Mashed Potato Topping
2 lbs. ground beef
1/2-3/4 cup chopped onions
1 clove garlic, chopped
1/2 package dry onion soup mix
2 eggs
2 slices of bread, crumbled
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Topping:
2 1/2 cups hot mashed potatoes
1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
Mix all the ingredients except the potatoes and cheese. Shape into a loaf. Bake in an aluminum nonstick loaf pan for 1-1/2 hours at 350º. During the last 20 minutes, spread potatoes over the meat loaf and top with grated Gruyere cheese.

I/m not a meatloaf person,(hubby is, and I haven't made it for him in a long time)... BUT this sounds do-able without the extra chopped onions, (to me there's probably plenty of onion in th soup mix) and I think I'd take the mashed potatoes and Gruyere cheese on the side.....ThanksKruzinParrots wrote:Just found this recipe. Started out with the intentions of following the recipe but didn't quite get there.
1) used a mixture of ground turkey and beef (more turkey than beef)
2) garlic, eggs and Worcestershire sauce - yes
3) had no french onion soup mix I added a box of Zatarains Jambalya mix and omitted the bread.
4) a salad and beets instead of mashed potatoes and cheese
It was very tastey. I will try your recipe when I have picked up the correct ingredients.
