Recommendations for Thanksgiving side dishes?

Post by lime rickie »

I'm getting bored with the usual old standbys. Anyone do interesting or unusual sides?

Check out Paula Dean. OMG!

We have tried different things from her cookbooks the last couple of years and haven't found a bad one yet.
I must be wishing on someone else's star....

Will do, thanks.

Doing a fresh cranberry relish this year, with mandarin orange and gran marnier. 8)

Not sure what I'm doing yet for veggies and potatoes.

I've made Penny's Pineapple / Cheese Casserole, and people I thought might not like it DID....and others who I thought might like it, LOVED it!!

I make a Broccolli/Cheese Casserole....If that's not one of your "usuals" let me know and I'll post the recipe for you. Again, even the kids that don't eat broccoli otherwise, gobble this up.

Doing a Turducken this year. They had them at our local butcher shop already prepped up so just pop it in the oven. Yay!

roasted garlic mashed potatoes
brussel sprouts with pancetta
roasted corn
sausage and sage stuffing
cranberry relish spiked with gran marnier

Would like some other green, still puzzling on that. Also, trying to find some of those little gourmet beets, would love to do them, too, but haven't seen them around at the grocery stores. :-?

And pumpkin cheesecake for dessert. 8)

In our family, a side dish is actually the Turkey. Main course is usually some sort of home made pasta.
Did you hear the one about me being a punk?
Did you hear the one about me being a drunk?
Did you hear the one about me losing my nerve?
Or how I'm just another f**** sheep in the herd?
Did you hear the one about me giving a s***?
Cause if I ever did I don't remember it.

That's how it is with my [Italian] in-laws...they "start" with a fresh pasta course but it's so delicious and everyone fills up...the rest of the meal becomes secondary. My SIL makes amazing manicotti from scratch.

I will start with soup...probably lobster bisque this year.

Ok now I'm hungry...lobster bisque [smilie=yum.gif]
grilled sweet potatoes [smilie=wrygrin.gif]
homemade pasta [smilie=giggle.gif]
The last few years, we've had side dishes that were non-traditional. They were tasty, but this year we're going full-out traditional just for giggles. Green bean casserole, hash brown casserole, dressing, cranberry sauce, toll house pie, etc. I had to go to some old cookbooks to look up the old recipes. yum.
Yep, I'd go to the Food Network Paula Deen pages to look up some really amazing dishes !!

I'm adding in roasted butternut quash with cumin glaze. And just for giggles I picked up these spinach gratins...I gotta have my greens, even if I'm the only one who eats them.
