with win8 you can still get "cli, aka command prompt" by the keyboard combo of windows key+r and type cmd, at least on non rt versions.SunLover wrote:Something else you can try is to flush the DNS cache by running ipconfig /flushdns.
To do this in Windows, open a command box: Start > Run > cmd [enter]
In Win Vista/7, you may need to run "cmd" as an administrator. In this case, go to Start > Programs > Accessories, then Right Click on "Command Prompt" and run as administrator.
In the command box, type ipconfig /flushdns [enter].
More info in this Microsoft KB Documentation. This is for WinXP, but the process is the same for higher flavors of Windows.
If you are running Mac, I don't know the process to clear the DNS cache, but I'm sure the process is similar.
EDIT: Removed references to Win8. Since this OS does not have a normal Start menu, I don't know what the correct process is to get the command box.

with what you are describing i would be leery of attempting too many sites without running a full malware/virus scan on your main system. in regards to android if you are attempting access via your home network you might want to reboot your wireless router and see if that helps.iamapieceofwork wrote:I just cant get the site to work for me ive tried internet explorer,Firefox

You might try changing Filezilla from active mode to passive mode in the "transfer settings" tab next to the jokelben server informationsouthofdisorder07 wrote:Nope, same error messages

Try setting Filezilla to passive mode instead of active mode that might be the issue
Will try on another IP tomorrow

Well, here's the status -
Tried all those things, then rebooted, then could not get into windows. Only file or program I was working with was bobo's.
Had to do a windows repair and recovery. Something definitely up with the site, I am going to stay away from it for a bit, windows 7 not fun when it goes down
Bob- I tried on 3 other puters and got same error messages, server timing us out.
Thanks!
Steve

Re: buffett.jokelben.us
sounds more like there are other issues with your pc than just the concert repository..fix those first and try again..like i pointed out earlier a full system scan for malware/virus is the first place i would start unless you can afford to flatten and rebuild the system, which i do on a daily basis as a network/system administrator.

Can you try your cellphone without using your wireless and see if that works?

Re: buffett.jokelben.us
Is this a possible reason?
This problem occurs when viewing the same site over a router from more that one computer or application at the same time for a period of time. This activates something in the server software that puts your IP address on a so called "BAND LIST". Your web hosting company will not be able to correct it because they don't know what is going on because they can see that it is working fine from their point of view.
Most common response is: Replace your router.
It works for them... But it is not the correct answer and it costs money to do so.
When this happens sometimes the IP address in your router and wireless need to be set up again so that it is correct. I really don't know what the Netgear folks did to help reset and update everything for me. My isp was not willing to do anything, but Netgear tech helped.
(and I'm not sure if that word "BAND LIST" is correct, but it sounds like what happened. I know it had something to do with matching numbers on router and wireless)

Re: buffett.jokelben.us
I have to agree with this. Since you are having the problem with multiple devices, including Android, it seems like it is something with your network. Rebooting or doing a hard reset on your router may fix the issue. Different routers have different reset procedures, so you may need to refer to your router's documentation or website support to get the instructions.oph wrote:with what you are describing i would be leery of attempting too many sites without running a full malware/virus scan on your main system. in regards to android if you are attempting access via your home network you might want to reboot your wireless router and see if that helps.iamapieceofwork wrote:I just cant get the site to work for me ive tried internet explorer,Firefox

Have you tried accessing via Android using your cellular data instead of wi-fi? This can also verify it is a network issue.

As much as jokelben is accessed, I'm surprised we have not had more users with this type of issue. It may be that jokelben or the web host don't have that "feature" enabled. Since Steve (southofdisorder07) mentioned the issues from the beginning, it may be unlikely he was trying multiple devices when the errors first appeared.
In your case, Netgear probably walked you through changing the MAC address on the router, making the server think a completely different device was visiting.

I think you are right. I searched for that site until I found what I think had happened to me. Since I have two computers and the cell phone on the newspaper site at times, it just stopped loading for me and I kept thinking they BLOCKED me somehow, but they assured me that doesn't happen. Finally got Netgear to help.

I accessed the server via 3 browsers Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox and the HTTP access is working fine
I also tried two different FTP clients Filezilla and CoreFTP Lite and they worked fine as well.
You might want to see what the number of seconds for timing out is set for in your copy of Filezilla it needs to be set to a minimum of 60 seconds in order for the server to accept the FTP connection
Here is what I get when I connect via FTP with Filezilla:

Re: buffett.jokelben.us
So far, I believe he has tried multiple browsers and/or FTP clients on different systems, including Android. If all of these systems are connecting thru the same router, it seems like the problem is hardware (router), not software. A test to verify would be for Steve to try using Android to access jokelben via cellular data instead of wi-fi.urlcenter wrote:I accessed the server via 3 browsers Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox and the HTTP access is working fine

A default install of Filezilla should be able to connect without changing any advanced settings.
Hopefully, we'll hear back from Steve with an update on what he has tried up to this point.

Re: buffett.jokelben.us
I don't think this question has come up yet...
@Steve: Are you using a modem and separate router or do you have an all-in-one modem/router that your ISP provided? If that's the case, perhaps your ISP can help you as well. They should be able to support the hardware they provided.
However, if you bought your own modem and/or router, they probably won't support them.

Re: buffett.jokelben.us
OK, I will not pretend to be a geek...BUT, I saw the mention of Netgear. We used to have a Netgear VPN modem at work. Of and on, we COULD NOT log onto some sites for whatever reason. One was a veterinary website that we use a lot for a reference, as well as a lot of other vets. The other was facebook. It didn't matter what browser I used...firefox, chrome, or IE. And then a few days later we could. One day we came into work and the modem was dead in the water. So we got a new wifi modem and since then, I have not had a problem logging on to facebook...er I mean our vet website. Adding my two cents that it might be a modem that is slowing dying issue. I didn't try to log on to jokelben site using filezilla, but I could through firefox.

Re: buffett.jokelben.us
And I didn't mean to confuse things with my limited knowledge, but I should have said that they had me hardwire my computer to the cable MODEM and I still could not get on the site.
Then they explained how they could get the IP to change or renew/reset and then updated the Netgear wireless router and got everything on it reset.
As much as I know, they could have done nothing special at all, but it finally worked. It took me/them (suddenlink techs and netgear techs) days to get it figured out.

Re: buffett.jokelben.us
No confusion at all, this is good discussion. It kinda reinforces the idea that he has a problem with a router or modem, especially since different computers are having the same access problems. I had similar connectivity problems with an older router some time ago. I replaced it with the same model with updated firmware and it seemed like my connections were faster. So dying hardware is a possibility.
I hope Steve is able to post back soon and let us know if he has tried any of the above suggestions.
