For the most part I love it. Of course there are a couple of skips over songs like must albums have. Much better than St Somewhere in my opinion.

Overall I give it a B-. Like all Buffett albums there are some gems (Slack Tide, Book on the Shelf, Who Gets To Live Like This, Hey That's My Wave, maybe even 15 Cuban Minutes) and some fast forward material (Cussin' Island, Live Like It's Your Last Day) and few that will grow on me.

I used to have high expectations. Always wanting that ballads album he talked about years ago and I would find myself getting annoyed with songs that I deemed not good enough. I've switched. I don't care what he puts out. He could do a whole CD of electronic music because I'll listen to it, albeit it may just be once. I am glad he is still being creative and having fun doing it and is not ready to put the book on the shelf.

After listening to all the tunes multiple times, thinking that BY FAR, "Book On The Shelf" is the best in my opinion. It may even be one of the best which have appeared on an album (with others of course) since FSOTW.

It has some good songs on it and some that I feel are typical 2000's Jimmy.

I wish he would put out a folk album and go back to his roots. He could recut some of the high cumby songs and cover the likes of John Prine and Stevie Goodman. I think that would be a cool project. Him and Mac would kill it.

Also, what happened to Buried Treasure Vol 2? Volume 1 was awesome.

As others have said, everything since Far Side of the World has had some gimmicky stinkers, but overall I was pleasantly surprised! “Book On the Shelf” is a true gem!!!!

bralph wrote: June 3, 2020 1:39 pmThat said, I agree on Cussin' Island. It's the Math Sux of this album.
Musically it's better than Math Suks, but lyrically it's almost just as bad.

In terms of the album overall, it's just about the best album we could ask for from him being this far into the future now. It isn't great compared to his earlier albums of course, but there are some decent songs on it and it isn't bad either. Since so many melodies have been written over the years, it's going to be hard for even one of the greatest songwriters of all time in Jimmy Buffett to come up with any truly noteworthy new material in the year 2020.

I like the new album. Last good release since License to Chill in my opinion. My favorite of the later albums are Far Side, Lizard and Fruitcakes. Flip Side actually has more then one song I can listen to repeatedly.

I really like this album and it grows on me more and more every day. As I have been listening to it on Amazon Music, is there a site that has all the liner notes. I know a few if not all the tracks were recorded at Shrimp Boat.
