Wine on WEDNESDAY@ the MSC

Post by bodypainter »

Good morning BN. We are going to the Finger lakes for an overnight trip. Thirty years ago, wineries offered free tastings, but not now. We only go to one. The rest of the time is sight seeing.
If I wasn't fishing in this all day rain,I'd be home doing something stupid.

Hi kids!

Safe travels, Bill! Not much is free anymore, it seems.

Not sure what is on my agenda this morning. Another cup of coffee then probably some errands.

Girl kid took my living room furniture to school for their house. Probably should start the process of looking for replacement furniture, but the thought of having to consistently say “I’m just looking” is too much right now. I get people are trying to make a sale, but just let me look around and get back to you.

Another hot toasty day in Michigan. Facebook memories are taking me back to Buffett Days gone by. Hitting me in the feels more so than usual.

On a somewhat side note; anyone going to see the Reefers open for the Doobie Brothers? I am struggling with being there and ponying up the cash for a decent enough ticket to make it worth it.
well, ummmmmmm, yah, I guess I better come up with something witty to put in this spot since everyone is reading it.......

My last Buffett show was 4 years ago today. I had tickets to 2 shows in 2022 but one was cancelled and the other was rescheduled for 2023. I decided to get a refund for the rescheduled show and wait to see what the rest of 2023's tour schedule looked like. Bad decision.

Good morning Bill, Mel, Larry, and Ken! :)

Have a good time, Bill!

Mel, can you look at stores online, then you can just can go in to see if you like it in person?
LIPH wrote: July 16, 2025 8:25 am Bad decision.
I'm sure you're not the only person who made that decision. :(

Cloudy and cooler today. It's in the 60's now, heading to low 80's, instead of upper 90's like we had for the last several days. And there's a good chance of rain. :)

I got some new suitcases, that are replacing 15 year old ones. Last trip the zipper on my small one wouldn't stay zipped, and the handle on the middle one was having a hard time moving up/down. So today I'm playing musical suitcases. :) I like them.

Morning, peeps. Downright tropical in Vacationland. I don’t hate it but Mr. Lime is keeping the AC cranked.

Spending most of the morning on bank and insurance calls. Really mostly on hold, forever each time, to finally speak with a real person for maybe two or three minutes. :x Fortunately dealing with pleasant and cooperative reps (so far).

New luggage is pretty, love the color, Penny. :D That’s on my to-do list, too, ours is at least ten years old and mine tore on our last trip.

Make it a happy hump day, y’all! :wench:
You only have two options - havin' fun or freakin' out...

Good luck on those phone calls, Nancy. Sometimes I really HATE those calls. :(

And thank you! They are about an inch smaller than my last ones. E would say I need not bring so much along when I pack.

I have debated getting a lawn seat then upgraded through the Knob when better seats become available. I have to check to see if they still do it, but for a while you could trade in a cheaper seat for a better one and pay the difference in price. I am doubtful the place will sell out, so I might just keep watching and see what becomes reasonable in the pavilion. I have to work that day and the next, so getting there early to walk around if people tailgate won’t happen 😩

I kinda wish Pine Knob wasn’t first—I would love to know if collabs will happen with the Doobie Brothers. Sounds like Mac may join for some, but not sure about the rest.

Good Afternoon -- I will have wine after the little one goes to bed tonight -- which should be around 7:30-8. While Brandon, Deanna & Austin went to the Medieval Times Dinner Show last night PopPop & Nonny were in charge of the younger one. He was fine but when he decides he's tired he goes from 0-100 in about 10 seconds (which seems like 10 minutes with the screaming).

We've already been to the pool and while we heard some thunder there was not a drop of rain or any clouds. Not sure what the kids are doing tonight.

Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday afternoon & evening.

Yes....you can still do that. In fact even if its a better seat at an equal price point they'll let you move up, although I believe there is a small fee for that.

true. as I mentioned i wouldn't plan on sticking around so it would be a bite if it happened & it was incredible. I had heard Radio Margaritaville will have the Doobies set live also for the PK show so maybe that's kinda gives a hint a collab may be in the cards [smilie=noeyedear-shrugging.gif]

Enjoy! The Finger Lakes Region of NY is where our daughter & son-in-law live It's a beautiful region with or without any wine!
As to the no-longer-fee tastings... NOFO on Long Island went through the same thing at their wineries quite a few years ago.

I like your luggage math, Penny! Two have an issue and are replaced with three!
I love the color! They should be easy to spot amid the sea of blue & black bags on the luggage carousel! :D

As to the Doobie/Reefer concerts... I am glad that RM has permission to broadcast the entire first show to see what (if any) collaborations happen.
Due to SoulMates ongoing health issues, we would not be going to their Great Woods show, anyway... but for other folks contemplating tickets, this is a good "preview" and can help them decide to attend - or not. I wonder if the decision to broadcast was made to drive up interest and sales.
I also heard that the Reefers' portions of a few other shows will be aired live.

Wellll, they HAVE to match!!! ;) And the color is exactly why I picked them. :D And I'm donating the large and medium purple ones to ARC for anyone who might be in need of.

Living here in a premier wine region, I can say that paid tastings are a good thing.

First up, it stopped dead in its tracks the spectre of Hen's and Buck's party buses arriving and destroying the ambience while they freeload.

Secondly, and more importantly, it removes the guilt of having a tasting and not being inclined to buy any wine.

Finally, it helps the smaller winemakers and cellar doors break even on the costs of opening the cellar door.

In our region we have more than 80 small producer cellar doors - family type operations. These guys are producing some of the best wines, made with passion and hard, hard work. Mrs Rabz and I have, through diligent effort, visited almost 60 of these places and are happy to pay a small cover charge at each. We have a strategy, on a Saturday after we go grocery shopping we stop for a tasting at a different cellar door. Sadly, we have found a flaw in that strategy. In the four years we've been here, there have been four new vintages and also our palates have developed and evolved - the practical upshot is we need to start again...

One reason for us to not buy and cellar is that we are within 15 or 30 minutes of these places, so we can get a bottle whenever we need one, without having to cellar it ourselves! (We have three wine fridges that are full as it is - Mrs Rabz works in the industry and gets a wine allowance...) The wineries cellar the wine properly, we aren't so conscientious!

Nice perspective on the wineries, Rabz!

What a nice afternoon! We always sit on a long dock at the end of Seneca lake. Anne stopped to sit in the shade, but I went out the dock which is 60 yards long. It was brutal hot! I have never been there alone, but today I was. At a restaraunt Anne spotted people from our village that retired here. We visited and I told some jokes. They roared. a rain front dropped the temp almost 20 degrees.
