Hoagie/Grinder/Sub/Hero SUNDAY @ the MSC

Post by Saltx3 »

Good Morning!

Today is National Eat a Hoagie Day which promotes a sandwich which is also known as a grinder, sub or hero. You can also order a po'boy, torpedo or an Italian sandwich to celebrate!

The hoagie consists of meats, cheeses, vegetables, sauces, and seasonings on a long roll of Italian or French bread. However, the origin of this giant sandwich is a bit of a mystery. The epicenter of the controversy seems to be eastern Pennsylvania between the DiCostanzas and DePalma's. Both lay claim to being the first to make the hoagie. One family claims to have been making the sandwich since 1923 and the other since 1925. But who has the proof?

We (and most of the Lancaster County area we came from) call this sandwich a SUB. And, I learned something new -- that the origin seems to have come from Pennsylvania!

Enjoy your Hoagie, Sub, Grinder, Hero day !!

Good morning.

On Long Island we called it a hero sandwich. I remember being someplace in upstate NY many years ago and I went to lunch. The place I went to had hoagies on the menu. I had to ask what a hoagie was, I had never heard of it before.

Good morning all! :)

Though I've heard all of the other terms for the sandwich, I've always just called it a Sub. And I love them. :D

Today's meals are easy. Bacon/egg/cheese on a bagel for breakfast. Dinner is some beef stew that I froze a few months ago, and it still smells great! Add to it some sourdough bread and a watermelon salad with mint and feta cheese.

Cameron's girl joked with me a few weeks ago about having a nail polish party (which I rarely polish my nails), but she wants to come over and do just that. :D Very 'girly', but that's who she is.

We had a great time at Oktoberfest yesterday. Saw lots of old friends and drank good beers. (I had one, since I was the driver).

Hi there! Anne her prime rib sub with me after I chewed up a burger. No dieting today.
If I wasn't fishing in this all day rain,I'd be home doing something stupid.

Good afternoon.
Definitely known as Subs around these parts. But will not be participating in Sub day.
Beautiful day here in the Great Lake State. Nice morning walk before Lynn ventured off to a new dog sitting assignment.
A little homework to deal with today but other than that just fiddling around.
On second thought, I do have a Subway gift card in my car glove box 🤔🤔

We’re at the beach even thought it’s overcast with a breeze. There are quite a few families and groups here. All the kids are in the water 💦

Just dropped by to say hi. Things haven't really changed here. Still sorting through trash and not finding anything. The cousins still think they know where we should look to find the will... Bryan was there for another 3 hours yesterday. But everybody knows best.

The batteries in my TV remote control died. I thought I had some batteries around but I didn't so I went downstairs to go buy some. My car wouldn't start. I called AAA, they came and gave me a jump start but the mechanic showed me the diagnostic report on my battery, less than 20% power left. The car's almost 8 years old so I told him to replace the battery.

Right there with ya, Larry!
It will always be a HERO to me...
But I have lived in enough places that I know all those other names...
