Re: WEDNESDAY @ the MSC
In our state there's no requirement to check ID, the law just says "no sales to anyone under 21." The Washington State Liquor Control Board will conduct stings where they send mature looking 18-20 year olds into stores to try and buy booze. If they are sucessful, the store will at least get a warning and remedial training and might even lose their liquor license. To be safe, and to demonstrate compliance, many establishements make it policy to ask everyone for ID. I'm seldom asked, but I've found that the younger the store employee, the more likely it is that I'm asked.Rabtzdownunder wrote: I am curious about the ID checking thing. What is that about?

The problem is that the younger me didn’t think there’d be an older me and now the older me has a bunch of stuff to fix because the younger me was an idiot.

Never made it in here yesterday... playing catch-up...
MA is pretty strict about making EVERYONE show ID because to only ask "young-looking" people for their IDs was brought to court by someone to sue for "age discrimination"
There is a supermarket in town that sells beer and wine and had (they no longer do
) a senior discount. I have seen cashiers apply the discount w/o even asking a customer their age or if they qualify, but then, when alcohol is included in their order, ask for an ID!
It's really kind of amusing!
On one occasion there was a MUCH older woman ahead of me who apparently came on the bus from the assisted living place nearby whi had a single bottle of wine in her order and did not have her driver's license with her, The cashier was obligated to scan an ID. The woman was getting a little upset, saying she wanted the wine for a special dinner (she was also buying filet mignon, so she probably was not kidding) and did not think she could get back again that day. I told the cashier if a license HAD to be scanned, could she scan mine instead, which she did! The lady was very relieved!
Linda - didn't you have a doctor's appointment for that cough (or am I hallucinating) what did they determine was the cause and what can be done about it?

Ahhh, but as The Radiators sang in 1984 (a very Sydney 1980s pub rock pop culture reference) "A Bit Of Pain Never Hurts"!SeattleParrotHead wrote: September 25, 2025 2:04 pm

The Radiators are one of my favourite bands ever. I did work for them on occasions and it was a blast. We saw them just before we moved away from Sydney a few years ago - at a small, local community club. It was a time warp back to the hot, heavy, halcyon summer nights of the mid 80s!

And up here in 1982, John Cougar told us it "Hurts So Good"......RabtzDownUnder wrote: Ahhh, but as The Radiators sang in 1984 (a very Sydney 1980s pub rock pop culture reference) "A Bit Of Pain Never Hurts"!

And YES... what SPH said... it is much easier to prevent the pain than alleviate it!

I am a little surprised that "The Rads" have a following in the US. How did you come to know about them?Caribbean Soul wrote: September 26, 2025 5:32 pm

Re: WEDNESDAY @ the MSC
I'm not entirely sure... probably from the blues show we used to listen to back in the day. Blues After Hours with Mai Cramer on WGBH... She's been gone for over 20 years now... I miss her, but I'm still grateful for the music she introduced me to.Rabbitz wrote: September 27, 2025 10:07 pmI am a little surprised that "The Rads" have a following in the US.
