If I had Saxophones Thursday @ the MSC

Post by SMLCHNG »

Good morning all! :)

Leaving in about 20 minutes to meet up with the tax guy and drop off my paperwork. Then a stop at one of E's banks. Then lunch with our brewery friend.

SUPER windy today, with gusts up to 100mph. Wheeee...

Have a good Thursday!! :)

Good morning Penny.

I played the saxophone, badly, in my elementary school band. I gave it up after one year. Then in junior high school I was in the orchestra for two years, I played the cello. Also badly. That's the extent of my musical career.

Ha! You were a virtuoso compared to me. I lasted 2 lessons on trumpet and hated it. I did sing in choir my senior year, which had the benefit of getting out of school for performances at service club luncheons.

When I was a kid, the school sent home info about music lessons and I was interested, but my parents wouldn't agree to either the drums or xylophone... end of the possibility for music lessons. When I was 10 or so, I had accordian lessons for about 6 months, but they got in the way of my baseball playing. Mom said "no practice, no lessons"... oh well, no more accordian. 🙅‍♂️ In hindsight, I sure wish I'd learned how to play the piano.

You're stretching it, MsMod; no live vids of this one! I saw him play it twice: in Auburn (White River Ampitheater) and Vegas.
When Amy left the band, it left the set list.

OOPS!! Sorry, didn't know this one would be hard to find! :(

And I'm about as musical as the rest of you. I can NOT sing. But I joined the choir my senior year at Columbine, and I had a blast!! :)

So, I had donuts with the tax guy, and he was VERY nice. Then stopped at one of E's banks (he had two) and gave them copies of the death certificate. Then had lunch with one of our beer friends and gave him more of E's Cardinals shirts/windbreakers, and an Ozzie Smith jersey. So he bought lunch. :) The owner, Jessie, was the one who used to have a Friday food truck at Lone Tree, and he took a minute to come say hi to us. :)

As some of you may know I have had an extended "career" as a roadie. The later years of which I was called an instrument tech—really a guitar tech but the bands I worked with had all manner of weird instruments that I would work on.

So for about twenty years I only ever knew one chord on guitar. I would set up and tune the guitar, test it with my one chord and move on to other things that I had to do.

At one gig, I set up for a couple of guitarist mates, who were well-known as both live and studio musos, when the discussion came around to why I couldn't actually play guitar.

Needless to say, weekly lessons ensued. I was never that good but they still forced me to practice, then occasionally would drag me on stage to "guest" with them. Apparently it was novel to get a roadie to sing and play...

I haven't picked up a guitar since we moved down here.

Goos story, Rabz. When performing, were you compensated?

As I was already working, there was no additional remuneration. The roadie maxim applies - Do what is required for the show to go on and for the punters to get their fun...

The only music offered in my grammar school was that the nuns would give free (I think) piano lessons in the convent... BUT they were ONLY given to those who had a piano at home, so that left me out, as we did not, and had no room to even consider getting one!

But when I got to HS, I joined Concert Choir and Band. If you had no previous instrumental experience, you were assigned an instrument - one the band needed at the time. My best friend and I were given French Horns.

Then early in Sophomore year, I went to see the Moody Blues (four 13-year-old girls going in by ourselves on a train to Madison Square Garden - what were our parents thinking! ), and requested the band nun to switch me to the flute, which she denied (understandable, actually as there were a lot of them already) it took me the rest of the year, but I finally got my parents to spring for a flute and lessons to study on my own! :D I still have that same flute and will even play it on occasion.

From one of our local news channel..

"A powerful windstorm slammed Colorado’s Front Range on Thursday, toppling power lines and semis, fanning wildfires, and leaving tens of thousands without electricity as gusts neared 100 mph". And where I live? South of Denver, barely a breeze.

Good evening, all!

I've been waking up early recently: 525am. It's not crazy early, but it's earlier than my usual of 6am. Doing some more writing (all I talk about  ) to pass the evening by! I will probably have a mug of coffee ice cream, too.!

I've tried out the saxophone once during an event at the Town Common...or something like that. It was a few years back.

Have a great night, everyone!! :D :D :D
Jerry...from Massachusetts. I'd like to go where it's warm! :D

Hi Jerry! I wake up most every morning between 5:00 and 5:30am with no alarm clock. Just overactive brain, and used to waking up that early when I was working. But I LOVE coffee ice cream!! :D
