A 3rd HOA Board member has resigned (the 3rd so far this (our 2nd) year). He submitted his resignation to the Mgmt company after the FB circus re fireworks. I am going to apply now since he's gone and since the term is only until the end of this year. The remaining folks are people I know and have never had issue with. We didn't originally with John but as he got more "power" he became obnoxious.
And this is why we will NEVER EVER live in what you guys call a HOA place (it's called strata management here). Each time we have, the failed middle managers and Karens see their path to power and glory.
One night we had some teenagers who lived in the building set off the fire alarms. We had visitors staying that night. We evacuated and waited.
I did a quick check of the fire panel and then had a look at the sectors that were in alarm—the break glass points were broken, in several location and the sh|tbags were running riot. After twenty minutes no fire truck turned up. We could see the station from our balcony...
I called it in.
When the brigade arrived I spoke to the station officer (SO) and told him what was going on and he asked me to accompany him on their assessment.
Not one apartment owner who was on the committee bothered to evacuate nor did they speak to the SO. As I was both a rural fire brigade member and also an alarm technician, the SO and I decided that as we had found no fire and there were spare break glass panels available that I should repair the damage so the alarms could be silenced without isolating most of the building.
The very next day a contingent of Body Corporate members (HOA) knocked on our door and started up at me about "interfering" as the alarm company were p***. I simply said to them that a) none of you evacuated; b) none of you helped; c) the alarm failed as it did not trigger a call to the fire brigade, so the alarm company need to get fired.
After explaining one or two of them realised they were in the wrong (!) and backed down. One even suggested I should run for the committee. The shocked looks when I explain that I couldn't because I am merely a tenant, not an owner were priceless. "But you always help out with the gardens and putting out the bins!" one said. My answer was "well, I live here don't I?"
So we will never give the wannabe Obergruppenführers and Karens a chance again.
