new albums or new tours?

Post by changingchannels »

just curious, if Jimmy decided to either continue touring for the next few years or to release new studio albums, but not both, what would you rather him do?

No question... Tour. He has so much material he doesn't do in concert. Every year could still be different.

Hmmm...

But it WOULD be interesting to see Jimmy put all of his effort and artistry into a new album... would love to hear where the talented JB we know and love is REALLY coming from. By that I mean not another album Jimmy thinks we'll all like, but an album that REALLY reflects where Jimmy is at.

I agree. This has to be a joke question. If Jimmy had one album, I'd say make some more music, BUT. . .

And Key Lime Lee. . .you HAVE to be kidding with Celine!!!!! Come on, Celine?! But your web site is pretty cool, sans Celine. I recommend all you parrotheads check out KLL's site.

I feel too guilty stifling and trifling his creative and artistic expression!

My initial thought is no-brainer... he has tons of material already, and NOTHING beats seeing him perform and all of the associated hoopla before and after. Keep touring!

But then, I thoroughly enjoyed FSOTW. As much fun as Jimmy appears to have on stage, is it more rewarding to see all of our smiling faces all summer long, or re-invent himself and draw from life's experiences, and try to pen some new stories over music? What is the chicken soup to his soul? What might he have inside him that he has yet to let out and share with the world?

Tough question! I would rather he do what's most fulfilling to Jimmy, and support whatever that would be, even if it were to do neither and take time off. :o gasp! :(

No its a hypothetical one! I am interested for the simple fact that some of us complain that its becoming the same tour every year. Yes Jimmy has a ton of material that he "could" play in concert, but the fact is he doesn't.

Tour, but I will say the tours from 2000 to 2001 when there was not a new album was not as good as the previous how many years when there was new material. Those of us lucky to catch the last few show in 2001 with the Far Side Of The World material saw much better shows than those earlier in the year. I saw him 7 times on that tour and the MSG September 11th benefit was the best arena show. The best show I saw was of course East Hampton that year!

I agree with ngaparrothead. I'd like to see him tour and put out albums, especially live ones. That would be really cool. Either way I'd be happy.

cc, I understand this is a hypethetical question but in my opinion this is a no-brainer. Jimmy could always introduce new material during the live shows and break away from his pattern of playing the same songs at every show, but thats not gonna happen. I think that if Jimmy puts out a live album full of new material and songs that everyone doesn't know by heart that would be great! But definetly keep touring

He must continue to tour so new phans can experience him live. His albums will always be around for them to hear, but they need to see him live to really appreciate being a PH.

Great question. From reading some of the posts I think I'm in the minority on this though. I've seen Buffett in concert three times and had a blast every time. But that's just three day's out of my life (31 yrs old) that I've experienced Buffett live. From a CD standpoint hardly a day goes by that I don't listen to Buffett. So as great as the three experiences seeing Buffett in concert were, I would get more value out of a new CD - with NEW material.

If we're being honest, I enjoy the Concert Albums more than most of the Studio Albums. No question in my mind... TOUR!
