buyer beware
I realize a number of us got shut out for tickets this past weekend and we are all looking for a great deal on tickets, my advice DON'T BE STUPID. I contacted a gentleman yesterday concerning tickets to Great Woods. I offered him a price and he accepted it. The price seemed to good to be true. He told me he had about 20 tickets available. I told him I would only do it if the tix were delivered COD and he needed to make a photocopy of the receipt that he purchased these tix. He refused to do either. If you are going to purchase tix via the mail make sure you do it COD and get a copy of his receipt, we all know the stories about fake tix. My guess is that this guy is a fraud

Good advice. I am in the same boat. Waited in line for GW tickets Sat morning and went home with nothing. I am very worried about getting tickets from just anybody but do not want to pay the price to a reputable broker of course. Do you know if there is any way to have the tickets checked once you receive them so you know they are ok ahead of time? I refuse to miss this show. This is what I look forward to all year! Thanks, and good luck.

Look on the back of the ticket there will be a string of red numbers, if you get multiple tickets the numbers should be in sequence. Also on the front look for a number followed by an X the better the seats the lower the X number. So if someone is selling up far back Pavilions or Lawns and the X number is double digits be suspicious. Ask the person if they are on eBay, if so ask for their username and look at their feedback, how long they have been a member etc… then send them an email through eBay’s user contact system and see if the same person replies back to verify that it is really their account. Meet in person with a cashiers check made out to him/her and try to get their plate number.

great advice but I'd love to see the look on a scaplers face if you pulled out a lighter when checking out his tickets..."oh, it burned up I am sorry these must be fake...wait here while I call the cops"sirgumby77 wrote:you can also hold a lighter away from the ticket----if it turns black, its real, if it burns up its fake. Try this with the reciet you get with your mail orders.

Question for jiggs - are you positive about the threads??? Is this only for this year or all years as my stubs from the last few years did not have threads. Just curious?

My post yesterday
Jiggs - I answered my own question. The tickets do have a blue color imbeded in the paper if you tear them. I looked at my stub from last year and tested. Cudos to you!

The above was all great advice for determining if the tickets are counterfeit or real. The only thing I can add beyond what's already been mentioned is that it's important to be aware that you could be buying tickets that were reported lost or stolen. If that's the case the ticket stock itself is going to be legitimate. If a season ticket holder at the venue reports their tickets lost they can have a set produced from the venue that overrides the original. The bottom line, like the title of the thread says "buyer beware" if you don't purchase them from the venue or it's authorized ticket agency (Ticketmaster in this case).

Something similar to the lighter trick is just take your thumbnail and kind of make a little line across the front of the ticket if it's real it will make a black line where you did this.
With COD are you allowed to open the product and check it out before you hand over the money? I've never used COD before but I thought I heard you're not allowed to.
