Dry Tortuga's, anyone been and advice for first timer going?
trying to plan a camping trip to the Dry Tortuga's for August, boat's all set, camping equipment is getting there, any advice? wisdom, stories? im a better sailor and fisherman then a camper so thats my biggest concern. Plus not wussing out and just staying in Key West drunk all weekend.
Grandfather always told me if i went down i might never come back again.

Great question fins26, I've been thinking about planning a trip there next time I go to KW. Any tips and info from someone whos' been would be great. Camping out there also also sounds great, but I don't know if I could talk the wife into that one.
I used to go crazy for days at a time, Now I'm taking my time with my days!

I've been there a few times but never camped. I've anchored out and also stayed inside the Ranger's quarters. Its been a few years but I remember you had to take everything with you, ice, water, food. No 7-11 or anything else. Its a great place to explore especially if you're a history buff.

I was there for a day this past November. They were not allowing overnight camping. It's a 2 hour ferry ride each way and very remote, but a great day trip for the snorkeling. The following link has more info.
