To record I use a program called Total Recorder. Great program. It's available on the web.

Not sure about recording directly to CD-R. I record to the hard drive and then dump to CD-R.

No you cannot record directly to CD-R..The audio input feed from Real Player is way to slow to sync a burn. Just record it to your H/d and then use a MP3encoder (like lame) to convert it from WAV to MP3. The program costs $12
