well, gumby beat me home by quite a bit, but I live m.uych further away..
97 downtown this afternoon with 105 heat index-pretty brutal out!
agree with gumby that it was one of the best.
his reaction to something being thrown on stage (and sorry I did not see what it was) was that it hit him in the face or eye-I think it was just a beach ball and don't really think he was too p***-if so it didn't last.
it was a great night-and to the BNers there-sorry we did not get there in time, but I'll meet up with you Saturday some time!

Well, I've seen many people rave about the show last night. I was there, and I was at the Alpine show in June. In my years of experiencing both the Chicago and Alpine shows, Alpine will always win for me. ALso, last nite I was stone sober, so I had a little different take on the show than I normally do (man, it's been a long time since I was sober at a JB show). Everyone's got their opinions, of course, and here's mine.
The set list wasn't that much different than from Alpine. Personally, it was a little mellow to me. And last nights show (from the lawn) wasn't loud enough. Also, I thought the lawn crowd sucked this year at Chicago. I actually walked around quite a bit checking out other area because I thought it was just our area. No. The lawn crowd just wasn't in to it as much this year.
One other thing I noticed, too. JB didn't have nearly the same amount of local references in the songs as he did at Alpine. Even on Come Monday, instead of the usual "it's so nice to be in <insert local venue here> again!!!" he said "so nice to be back at the tiki bar again."
And the parking lot just doesn't compare with Alpine's. I will say this though: a security gaurd came over by us around 6:15pm and told us that "technically" tailgating was over. Explaining further, the village of tinley park doesn't officially allow tailgating (some sort of local ordinance), but Jimmy pays the fine for everyone to allow it just for his shows, but they want you to start moving inside at 6pm so that you can start buying $7.25 beers. I'm sure somehow it's wrapped up in ticket prices, but that's cool anyway. Don't know if this guy was full of s*** or not, but I did hear this last year too.
So my overall review: all in all, a decent show, but a little too slow and mellow for me. My newly pregnant wife wasn't too happy in the heat, so that might have something to do with my experience, too. Would've liked to have some more upbeat favorites like Fruitcakes, Weather is Here, Boat Drinks, etc. Too bad there was no Brown Eyed Girl or the lost Margaritaville verse this year, either. This would have made the wife a little more into it, too.
What I really don't understand is why he has two Chicago shows, when clearly last nite there were a few thousand people missing. God knows that he could sell out three nights at Alpine.

Two separate security guards told us this last nite and while I didn't hear it in person last year, someone said that they were told that too. There is an official local ordinance banning tailgating, though.
I'm from Milwaukee and don't get to the Chicago show every year, but two years ago, we got there when the doors opened at 5:00 and were "forced" to go right inside. There were people even harassed for taking too long to get our stuff and get out of the car. That changed last year, finally. They were really dicks down there for along time. I'm glad that finally changed. I even e-mailed the local Tweeter Center and I got the canned response "there is absolutely no tailgating at our facility". So I asked around and everyone said not to worry. So we didn't.
So yeah, they said that they always have a ton of extra staff on hand for the JB shows because they're the only ones that have tailgating. The fine is $550 per person, and JB pays some sort of fine to cover it all for a certain time period. So I don't know what kind of deal he has w/ tinley park, but it worked out for us.

if that's the case, THANK YOU JIMMY!!!!!!!!!
And lsat night had to have been rough on a pregnant woman-there was one ahead of me trying to get a glass of ice, and they made her buy the iced glass of water for $3.25! This place is really a pain about stuff like this-they won't give you the bottle of water, they pour it into a paper cup and then have to tops for them (might use these things as weapons).
But over the years, Tinley has gotten better at understanding what this show and these fans are all about.
You can only imagine what it was like there in 1989, their first year being open, when the Dead played!

Yeah, fortunately my wife is only 2 months along, so it's not as bad as it could have been.
And $3.25 for water is absolute *****. I heard some guy was ejected just before we got to the stand because he started climbing over the counter.
Unless they've had a lot of problems, I just don't understand not letting people tailgate, other than the obvious, which is they want you to spend $3.25 on water. Funny story: last year, one of the guys in our crew was so drunk on the way out that he grabbed an empty beer bottle off the ground in the parking lot, then stopped by someone's tailgate party and had them pour water from their cooler into it.

Jimmy does it again
Well as a relativly new parrotthead (one year). I have missed most oppourtunities to see buffett live. But I was finally around at the right time to go to the show last night and by no means was I disapointed. In fact I can still feel how much of a good time I had last night! Just wanted to thank Jimmy and all of the Chicago area Land sharks for allowing me to have such a great time. And remember to keep those fins up!

Yesterday's Show or Alpines
I set my computer at work to record yesterdays show (not sure if it worked yet), but seeing if anyone can send me yesterday's show incase it didn't
Hopefully there is a tech savvy person here who has it as MP3's rather than one HUGE wav file.
Also, I am looking for the Alpine show if anyone has it as well.
Thanks!

Just my 2 cents on Tinley Park. I really like it there. Maybe i just enjoy things to be organized a little more than most parrottheads!
They have tons of people working there and they don't leave a lot to chance. The entrance into the park is easy. They have adequate bathrooms (with lots of paper) and they have lots and lots of police/security to direct traffic before and after the show. All the employees we interacted with were pleasant and remembered to say "enjoy the show!"
I was at Alpine last year and swore I'd never go there again. The bathrooms were the pits, they lacked adequate crowd control and I thought we would die trying to get into the venue. We left with plenty of time and still missed two songs. Their system was truly awful.
I heard it wasn't so bad this year. Maybe I will try it again some time after I have forgotten what it was like
Anyway, I had a ball at the concert Thursday!
