Good morning, Parrotheads,
Guapo probably wants to hear "Another Saturday Night", rather than "Brown Eyed Girl", because
he relates to it better. You can't meet 'em if
you are sitting home every night surfing the net
and offending people.
Who has sung "Brown Eyed Girl" more, Jimmy or
Van? Probably Van is grateful to Jimmy for keeping this song in the public eye over all
these years. People love this song, though,
because they like to sing along with the
chorus. Even those who never go to Buffett
concerts and who don't know the words. Kids
are familiar with the song from hearing their
parents play it. Jimmy is probably the only one consistently singing it in concert. It fits
with two of the main themes of a Buffett
concert, shameless hedonism and audience
participation. Other Buffett classics that
fall into these categories are WDWGDAS and
"Pencil Thin Mustache". Jimmy should never
drop them. Great to hear new songs
also. "Island" is beautiful, "Knees of My
Heart"is endearing. "If It All Falls Down"
might be Jimmy's way of having the last
word on the meanies on the internet. He's reminding everyone "I can charm a crowd."
That's the bottom line, isn't it, no matter
who plays the harmonica?
The concert was great. Keep it up, Jimmy and
Reefers and Reeferettes.

The party was a good as ever, however the show was tired. I juist got back from vacation and felt like throwing my $.02 in. I have seen him every year for the last 17 and he is slowing down little by little. The music had no "edge". Jimmy, make up with Fingers and get back to trying. Maybe he should take a year off. I agree with the album reviews of OTSTL. It is a fun CD.

I personally thought it was a GREAT show and
even relistening to it now it's getting better and
better. I don't get the comments about "tired"
and "slow" and whatnot. There were more
ballads this year (thank goodness) so of
course the pace of the show was slower. But
Jimmy was funny, rockin' and right on. The
weather was here, the crowd was (as usual)
made up of Jimmy Buffett fans and those who
just want to get drunk, but I'm used to that by
now. I'm just hoping he comes back next year.
He never said he would and now I have a
long, cold winter to obsess about it.

headparrothead: What a relief! I always worry that each show has been the last. As it turns out, I ended up seeing the last show with Fingers (April 29th at Irvine Meadows)and at the time I was of course, blissfully unaware. I think I would want to know when I am seeing the last show from Jimmy. I don't know though. What do you think?

It'll be a national tragedy when Jimmy quits.
My wife makes fun of me and tells me " When Jimmy dies you are going to be like the Jim Morrison followers and sit at his grave." I make it a point to pray daily that Jimmy will never quit or die.
I don't know. Fortunately Fingers doesn't live too far from me so I get to see him every now and then. That was one of the biggest disappointments when I heard Fingers quit. Hopefully everyone will kiss and make up and he'll start playing again.
Have a great day.
Fins up!

I don't get it "tired", "slowing down". It was more "tired" and "slow" in February 1998 at the Palace - of course that was indoors. Now, talk about slow, and I am dating myself here. I went to Pine Knob (correct me, 1978?) when he broke his leg. We just walked up to the ticket window at Pine Knob and got tickets. That was when you could bring in your own coolers. There was at least 20 feet between blankets. No one, except for those in the pavilion stood up, almost no one on the lawn danced. It was still a fun show, but nothing like what he does now (or the Parrotheads!). Personally think he's still "Growing Older but Not Up" and that's the way I want to go, with my "metabolic rate pleasantly stuck".

Oh man, hippy2! I remember that broken-leg
show (or at least parts of it). We drove down
and back from Traverse City in the same day. I
do love the shows now, but I miss those old
ones, too. I wish I had been one of the "three
people" who heard him in the club in
Southfield he made reference to.
Anyone have any idea what he was talking
about ... "stay tuned" to RM in October? "We'll
be going to that One Particular Harbor," he
said. Think he's going to take us all to the
South Pacific?

JT - a guy that my husband works with, Wizard, loves Buffett and has followed him since he played back up band for Henry Bellafonte. I'll have my husband ask him.
Incidentially, Wizard just missed his first Buffett concert in a long time because he ended up having to work, but gracefully gave his ticket to his daughter who went with his wife. He said he knew it was a good show because when he woke up his wife was fully clothed laying across the end of the bed and his daughter's pick up was parked across the driveway. Think Jimmy changed their latitudes?

ou can download the show from:
http://buff
ett.musicpage.com/
Some guy named Bob has his own server and
captures quite a few of the shows. Pine Knob
isn't going to be up there very long he said,
because he's not happy with the quality.
(There are a few skips, especially during
WDWGDAS.) But I've been reliving and
relistening for a week now and I'm happier
than a clam in a tidal pool!
