I am not sure how Alpine 99 was , but Jimmy seemed quite tired here in 98, very much going thru the motions, so to speak. This was definitely not an issue last saturday night, as Jimmy Buffet positively rocked the hillside and he was flying high! Barefoot and wearing some neon-orange sailing shorts, he was loving life! It was a blast for everyone lucky enough to be in attendance as it was very obvious that Jimmy was way into it; perfect weather and although i was a little skeptical at first, Clint Black was a fantastic addition to the festivities and gave the party even more high octane-boost; they even had him dressed in a Hawaiian-style shirt and lei...it was a classic, very un-country-ish...Jimmy was feeding off that energy in a big way. Maybe next year we will get 2 nights at Alpine!! It's hard to pick out a highlight with this concert, but I particularly enjoyed Latitudes, the clint black song, Jolly Mon, and Gypsies in the Palace. I did miss Boat Drinks and Knees, tho!!
The halftime video of Jimmy circa 1973, in a circle with a bunch of lost-looking hippies, was hysterical!! And I agree with the last comment that the sight of well over 50 girls squatting on the steep hillside, inside the venue under the evening moonlight, was quite surreal!

What a great show. It seems that JB really loves Alpine Valley. Hello to all the beauties that were there, expecially Pamela from Illinois!

Jimmy does love Alpine Valley. He should do 2 shows there and only 1 at Tinley Park. Mexico was great, Gypsies was awesome, and Harbour was phenomenal as usual. Could have used Knees of My Heart in replace of a few others, but we all have our favorites.

I live in Wisconsin, and go to 3 shows every year, (this year I also hit Indy and stormy St. Louis). I can tell you that there is never a better show than the Alpine Valley show. This year was no exception. He rocked the hillside, and from the 18th row he looked like he was having more fun than ever!!!!! When will they get wise and give us a second Alpine show so more of Wisconsin's parrotheads can attend every year!?!

I have a fair question for the Wisconsin Parrotheads... What do you all (in general) have against people from Illinois? Why do we get called FIP's? Is it just a kind of "Illinois picks on Indiana" type thing, or is there something I'm missing?

Alpine Valley was the most incredulous experience I've had in a long time. The crowd was awesome. Parrotheads are definitely the most outrageous and the most civil concert goers there are. There were a few who had their moments, but paled in comparison to the comradery that was present. You enter as strangers, but only Jimmy can pull off uniting 35,00 fans and making it seem like a reunion of old friends. I'm on day 2 of recovery from the concert, I strongly urge it!

Anon: Will I be starting a whole heap of trouble if I ask what a 'FIP' is? Would it have to start with "PH" in order not to get red-dotted? just curious...^^'s up!

ohio, yes, they call us "red-dotting Illinois People". I know of this "resentment", for lack of a better word.

doesn't seem very friendly, if you ask me...especially since Illinois & Indiana start with the same letter. I mean, turn the other cheek is fine, but- hey, give it back! ;) (that's a devilish little smile!) tee-hee

I've phinally recovered from our annual track from St. Louis to Alpine--God I miss Wisconsin!!! If you've never been to Alpine you haven't seen tailgating. But that is just the beginning. Seeing Fins from the back of the hill with 35,000 Buffett Phans doing Fins to the Left...is awesome. We always take the back row of the hill for ease in finding our seats after a long conga down the hill. Buffett's energy was incredible this year, much more than 99. Gypsie's should become a concert staple, but I missed That's What Living is to Me in the acoustic set. I know everyone complains about WDWGDAS, myself included. I refuse to listen to it at home, but the crowd participation changes my attitude toward playing it in concert. To everyone we met this year and shared jell-o shots with...see you next year. I wish they would schedule two shows at Alpine, that way I can take a full week and spend more time in WI. Take care everyone.

Ohio, I totally agree, and they both even have an "N". That's wild! Maybe the problem is the multiple letter thing. Illinois has a full-house in I's and L's. Indiana's has 3 pairs: I's, N's, and A's. A full house wins over a few pairs anyday!! Can any state beat a fullhouse? No wonder no one likes red-dotting Illinois People!!

Wino: but...aren't you a red-dotted I.P.? (you know I want to make a joke about a pair, I won't, but I want to...)

yes, I'm a red-dotted I.P. Now I'm curious on the root of that term. I think my theory on the letter per state names is wrong. Mississippi, Massachusetts, Alabama and Tennesee are holding 4 of a kind and I dont call them names.

ohio, we could really use a joke SOMEWHERE in here.

Wino: 4 of a kind...wouldn't just one nice pair be better than that? (somedays I think I am the joke in here!) ;) LMAO! You a vewy funny man!

ohio- I would take one nice pair over 4 of a kind anyday, if we are talking about the same thing that is. I dont know where we are going with this...

...if men came from venus and women came from mars...

Wino: Yes, we're talking about the same thing. And, we're not going to go anywhere (else) with this. oh boy.
