I signed for a Generac instalation. It will be closer to the house than I want.

My sister and BIL have one, Bill. Even when it turns on with it's testing mode, I never hear it, unless I'm outside. And if the power goes out, it comes on within 30 seconds.

I have one as well and I am SO glad I spent the money. It has been a life saver a few times; both to me and some neighbors. The next door neighbor will run a large extension cord over to plug in their sump pump, and a few neighbors who work from home have set up shop in my living room and dining room when we have had extended power outages. The piece of mind it brings me was worth every dollar.

Bill, make sure whomever is installing is aware of codes for your locale. In my township (might even be county??) there were codes regarding how close it can be to windows or other air intake areas to protect against carbon monoxide issues. I can hear mine when it runs, but it isn’t terrible. It sits on the wall where the dining room and upstairs bedrooms are. I am glad my neighbor’s garage sits closer to it than their living quarters, but they also have a Generac, so I doubt they hear mine.

Those seem to be a big deal around here—lots of older families and widowers in my sub so almost every house has one. The newer families are catching on, especially after they have had to redo their fancy finished basements when their sump pumps quit working….

I was out earlier this afternoon and on the way home I stopped at the gas station to fill the tank. I always pay with a credit card, when I was finished today there was a message "see cashier for receipt". I went inside to get my receipt and told the cashier the card reader at the pump didn't read my rewards card when I scanned it, they have a $0.05/gallon discount if you're a rewards member. She looked at my receipt and saw I didn't get the discount. It took 9.98 gallons to fill the tank, she opened the register and gave me $0.50.

Now I have an earworm!

One of my neighbors has a propane-fueled Generac set-up... It's been the neighborhood's good luck charm! We have not had a major power loss since they put it in. There have been a few blips of less than an hour, but that's about it. As you said Penny, it is very quiet!


A bit of a sad afternoon for me... I had my last appointment with my Primary Care doctor that I've been seeing for over 25 years... she is retiring...
I was upset as I REALLY like her... we always spent a bit of the appointment catching up on family stuff (our daughters went to school together and both our husbands have had their own medical issies) and the state of what is going on these days (as we agree it just sucks.. ) and how it is affecting so many people's health. Her office will set me up with someone else, but it just won't be the same.

I had to find a new PCP (25 years) and Dentist (30 years) when I went on Medicare. But I've found that my new ones are WONDERFUL, so I got lucky.

That is what I told her... as long as it was HER decision, (it was) I was happy for her... but that she would be tough to replace. We hugged and spent more time chatting (after she made sure to send in new Rxs to CVS for my two meds to cover me through the transition) and I felt a little better about it. Like you said it is hard.

Penny - I remember when you had to do that. At least she is associated with a medical network that will actively place her patients, so I don't have to do it myself. And I have "regular" Medicare + a supplement plan from Harvard Pilgrim, so all the local doctors will take it!

And I have the same... and a supplemental plan from United Health Care. And trust me, I SOOO understand. It broke my heart to leave these practices, but again, I was pleased with my changes. (THANK GOODNESS).
