What everyone else said, ETP - Great review!
I like the set list, and I'm excited about seeing some material I've never seen him do before.
I'm really hoping the CILCIA video segment was just cut out in Houston because there really isn't tailgating there like other venues. I'm gonna be kinda bummed if we're not on the big screens partying on our boat in Dallas!! Lakewood/Hi Fi in Atlanta is a BIG tailgating venue, so hopefully he'll stick it back in the set list tomorrow night.
What do y'all think?

I don't think so....I could be wrong....but I don't think so. I'll hafta reconstruct the evening after I get home from the mines.tnsna wrote:ETP- did Club Trini do the opening that preceeded Great Heart from the tour a couple years ago???
One more thing that just struck me was that Jimmy talked a lot more last night...especially during his time on the barstool....that was way kewl...and took me back to the 'old daze' when it was mostly just Jimmy and the guitar.

Overall I like changes to the set list...I thought too much of the new album last year and not enough this year (FSOTW should be a staple)...
The new WDWGDAS version was just ok in my mind and it could get real old quick...
It didn't contain some buffett classics (CILCIA, SOASOAS) however those two were not always in every set list and I like hearing Jimmy covering other tunes...
I agree with the BEG crew and don't want it in, but would be ok with it rotating in and out with Southern Cross or Mexico...
Like the fact that Tiki Bar is back in...I'd loved the way he did it last year, but this years' version is cool...
He can't play "He went to Paris" too much for my liking (unless, of course, he put in the "Captain and the Kid")

just got back, loved the venue reminds me of a smaller greatwoods, they actually have grass on their lawn we stayed at the new marriot a 5 minute walk to the venue loved that mexico is back, in the shelter haven't heard him play that in awhile I can always do without wdwgds Papas was a blast, but I have to say the traffic in houston sucks, this coming from a guy who used to commute into boston and what is up with the 48% tax on the rental car? He looks to have a new blue guitar, sounded great the Mrs talked her way into a guitar pick, very cool the talking tiki gods, pretty hokey, i question if they will make the whole tour not enough amy lee face time

It was a more mellow Jimmy at times, but he was totally into it. The new songs caused a little lull, but they were well done. I was sure he would do Migration, a Caribbean Soul and a little Texas hidden deep in his heart. It would have been a smash. The set has the look of what you would think a Buffett Concert should be, and Jummy appeared comfortable with the set up. I too wished that Far Side would have been done, and Changes as well. Also, if he is going to do WDWGDAS, just do it, it is the same amount of time and the classic version is best. He Went To Paris was off the charts, it was an emotional moment for Jimmy and everyone around me. It was one of those moments when you know something special is happening and Jimmy lets you be his guest. I chose Guadalajaro's for the pre party, less driving and full of PH's. I think as usual he will adjust the set, but he seems content to be a little more mellow, which is fine with me.

agree
No more Brown Eyed Girl......I agree. These are the songs that I would like to hear. Pascagoula Run (spelling?), Tonight I Just Need My Guitar, Boomerang Love, Take Another Road (HE REALLY SHOULD PLAY THAT), and Homemade Music.
If I only had one choice it would be the Pascagoula Run. I think it rules!!!! I bought the 2-disc set yesterday, and having that LIVE was worth every penny.

Overall I think it'll be a great setlist for Tiki Time in VEGAS!! There's a few great songs in there that I hadn't heard before(Burn that Bridge, Honey Do, Mental Floss, La Vie Dansante) The albums they came off of are definately next on my list.
I was disappointed in the no love for A1A! What happened to TTRWAHS???? At least TTC or Migration, but I'd die happy if I heard MMFM, Tire Swing, or Door#3. This goes without saying--Jimmy has way too many favorites to play in one night, I think he need's to think about starting a JB festival, at least 3 days long.
We used to laugh at Grandpa when he'd head off and go fishing. But we wouldn't
be laughing that evening when he'd come back with some whore he picked up in
town.

Personally, I thought the set list was great. A good mix of the staples you'd expect for the SYBKH crew and some dusted off lesser knowns for the die hards. Was really cool to hear some songs that he doesn't normally play.
The only problem with that is that a lot of people around us on the lawn took the lesser known songs (by them anyway) as opportunities to converse and generally mill around. Kind of made it hard to see/hear at times depending on what was going on around us....
As everyone has said, there were some classics that everyone has come to expect, but he isn't going to play all night long (as much as we could take it, he probably couldn't). Replacing some of the classics with the newer stuff was great.
Stage setting was awesome. The tiki themed stuff was a little hokey, but it made it funny and seemed like the entire band was enjoying it. During the encore, the back dropped was changed to a semi-cloudy ocean horizon scene that actually went through a "sunset" as the encores came to an end. Pretty cool IMO.

Dammit I wasn't supposed to look at the new setlist!!
!!
I wanted to be suprised this Saturday at Nashville but I couldn't resist.. Overall, I think it looks awesome as usual. I love Boomerang Love and I don't ever recall Jimmy playing that or ever even seeing it on a setlist from the '89 or '90. Is this the first time he ever performed this song? Also, Burn That Bridge and La Vie Dasante are great songs, I think Riddles In The Sand is underrrated, its one of my Top 5 Jimmy albums. I am also looking forward to the songs that showcase the other talent in the band! Its definetly my opinion that Great Heart is the best opener I've heard.
Songs I miss will be FSOTW of course, and Changes. I'd still love to hear Beyond The End, Frenchman For The Night, and Nobody Speaks To The Captain No More....

I told someone at work yesterday that Buffett fans are the most loyal but also the hardest to please.
People whine when he plays the SYKBH because they want him to mix it up and play some of his old stuff.
The Houston show are great-enough SYKBH to please everyone, but alot of songs no one--except me, because I heard part of the sound check
--expected. It was great to hear him pull out the old songs--even if some people didn't know them.
I was sitting with the PH club and we loved every song! And I can't wait for Dallas!
My best review.........
