Last year bought an ez up canopy, which was great. Always bring lots of drinks, blender, coolers, ice, food, buffettized wardrobe, etc....
I would say slightly over middle of the road

We always bring tons of food (and tables to put it all on), lotsa folding chairs, several coolers (beer), several jugs (margaritas, pina coladas), and misc. decorations draped all over the cars. Our crew is at least 7 people (often more), and we dress up to varying degrees (I'm a grass skirt/coconut bra/straw hat guy...see avatar).
The one thing we've never been able to pull off is the bigger setups like swimming pools, beaches, tiki bars and tents. Nobody in our gang has a truck or van to haul it!
My hat is off to all you folks who bring in the major construction projects. I've enjoyed many of them, and appreciate all the effort.
By the way Frank- if you're bringing that excellent tiki bar this year I am DEFINITELY finding you and taking some pics!

Only ever tailgated once (two years ago at the Post-Gazette Pavilion) and my "crew" consists of two - me and my wife (who's not nearly as into it as I am). But we dutifully donned our Hawaiian shirts and leis and drank margaritas. This year we might decorate a little and bring along a portable grill and cook up some grub.
So... low-key, yeah.

When you have a tiki bar, do you sell drinks or give them away? Or is it just decoration?

Me I am low key, I try to hide in the background to watch the madness of the other people

I average 6 - 8 shows per year, the record was 13 in 2000.
Within Driving distance.....INSANE. For Irvine, San Diego, and Phoenix:
In the early 90's, at all shows I brought in the parking lot a 30' SeaRay boat "Island Dancer" in on a trailer behind my Suburban, wide load permit and all. The ultimate girl magnet, this was better than any RV in the lot, and usually a group of buddies and I would really go nuts.
Today, we bring in our bus style motorcoach and party in style (alas, our new boat does not fit on a trailer). The bus has "Meet Me in Margaritaville" painted on the back and FINS BUS California license plates. Same story, arrive early, drink like crazy...with one twist. We can party in the parking lot all day and at the show, then sleep in the bus...no one will kick you out if you have been drinking!
I always wondered whose boat that was!!
We have "hoisted colors" since 1996 (first shows for the other half were '89 and '90 at Hollywood Bowl) on one vehicle or another. The "Pirate Truck" got it's name at it's first show at Irvine in '98 and continued in service until '04 at the Pond, but has since been decomissioned and donated to charity.
The "Pirate Truck Ver.2.0" will make her maiden Buffett show this April, but the amenities will remain: BBQ, cooler full of "mango tango" and "Scary berry" margaritas & beers that are not for the faint of heart, good eats for the first mate and myself, and some form of shelter decorated accordingly.
I don't keep the TQ chilled because with the quality of "hooch" we drink, it would be a sin to chill or mix it.
I do think I have the hat for the party though (check the avatar).

Look forward to seeing Pirate truck version 2.0. Please come by our bus and say hello...we will also have our ultimate Pirate vehicle....our Bentley GT with PIRET40 California plates. It's the same car Jimmy supposedly has in Florida...according to another BN thread.
FINS Up!

It looks like your tailgating outside of a Walgreen's

The most that I've had was a couple of chairs, a magnetic fin that I made for the top of the vehicle, a flag pole with pirate flag, painted up windows, a grill, the cooler of alcohol and usual parrothead attire.
I've never really went all out but I love the people that do.
Part of the fun to me is walking around looking at the Carnival.
My first show at West Palm in Dec or 99, my buddy and I were totally caught off guard.
We just had a couple of hawaiian shirts and a couple of twelve packs that we had to make redneck coolers out of (ripped the tops off and filled with ice)

We've added a few things to the Hoot Island landscape in the last few weeks.
It'll be interesting to see how the real pictures turn out...

I fall into the "low key" category...but, I must be pretty damn wild compared to Larry!
I could care less about the swimming pools, fake beaches, etc. I just like to mingle, walk around and drink from my big ole "go-cup"!

One of these days, that WW2 propeller is bound to come in handy....

We usually bring a patio table, chairs, hawaiian shirts, grill, about 10 people, flag pole with LARGE pirate flag, great food (last year I did about 500 bacon wrapped barbeque shrimp - Burned most of em) and LOTS of Booze. I don't have any good pictures, last year I was too drunk to take any, like I said I burned most of the shrimp.... (Made the mistake of drinking margaritas BEFORE I started cooking/eating - on an empty stomach, and it went down hill from there - and that's why I am not allowed to drink Tequila anymore......)
