BUFFETT IS GOD I KNOW EVERYBODY AGREES

Just now getting into work from the show last night....whoops!! Quick thoughts from Pine Knob:
-Jimmy's voice seemed better than ever. Particularly I thought on "Tryin' to reason..." and on "Treat her like a lady"...they almost sounded like studio versions!
-I know many people have already said this...but I'll say it again..."Fingers" is definitley missed. And, in the case of last night, the harmonica altogether is definitely missed! "Fingers" is the greatest....but I would have definitely taken Clint Black, or any other Coral reefer wannabe who can play the harp. No offense to Amy Lee...she looks like she's totally into it and she plays her heart out, but a sax is no replacement for the classic harp parts on songs like "Pirate looks at 40". If Clint can't make the show, you'd think Jimmy could get SOMEBODY in there that can play that thing!
-We stood 5th row center....have never been that close, and, I have to admit, it was sometimes fun to actually turn around from the stage and face the huge crowd behind us....especially during "Fins". What a sight it is to see all those fins 2 the left and fins to the right! Now I know what Jimmy sees....and it's easy to see why he's still doing concerts. What a feeling it must be to know that YOU created that feeding frenzy!
-Who were those 2 new dancers? Were they on stage at Camden? I haven't heard or read anything about them...and I guess they don't really add all that much since the real show is Jimmy's music....but, I've gotta tell you from a guy who was very close to the stage...they were both absolutely gorgeous girls and incredible dancers. To that blonde stranger dancer: You were KILLING me! How would Louis Lamour get me next to THAT girl!
-Note to Pine Knob Mangement: WAKE UP! You open your parking lots at 2:00 for an 8:00 show...knowing that everyone is eating and drinking there before the show....and there are NO restrooms accessable to the parking lot?? I asked one Pine Knob security guy, and he said "Jimmy didn't spring for the porta-pottys this year"... Well does Jimmy have to spring for everything? You're charging 7 bucks a car....get a clue! Personally, I prefer a tree....but many thanks to all the "RV'ers" who graciously allowed the ladies in our group to use their facilities throughout the afternoon. Pheads are the greatest!
-Also...I wouldn't normally say this...but my hats off to the Oakland County Sheriff's Dept. who was responsible for parking lot patrol during the pre-concert festivities. I saw many, spoke with a few who stopped by our tailgate...mainly to make sure we were having fun....not the gestapo at all....and noticed that several officers were riding around on their Harleys wearing flower leis...and one guy even had a stuffed parrot perched somehow on the shoulder of his uniform. Maybe they've taken the "if you can't beat 'em...join 'em" attitude....but I have to respect that! Nice job guys.
-All in all...another great evening with Bubba!
I don't know how long all this madness will last....but the other thing that's easy to see from close to the stage is that Jimmy sure seems to still be having a ton of fun doing these shows.
Lots of personal crowd interaction...lots of laughs and grins....lots of thanks at the end...he may just go on forever!! I hope so.

To hear "Treat Her Like A Lady" is worth the price of admission alone!!!

Thanks Ohio....Sorry you weren't there, but assuming you are from Ohio...you gotta love that
"She came down from Cincinnati...."
2 other highlights:
-I had read once upon a time from music reviewer somewhere on this internet that there was absolutely nothing worthwhile on Jimmy's "Off to See the Lizard" album...and that he wouldn't really recommend it for true Buffett fans. Thus, even though my collection is extensive, I don't own it and have never really heard it all. But, I've got to say, that the title track live absolutely rocked last night. It looked like Jimmy probably had the most fun playing that song last night than anything else! The reeferettes were dancing and singing the "Deja Deja Deja Vous"
parts....Mr. Utley was jamming...and Jimmy was grinning so wide that it's a wonder he could even sing. I'm now tempted to go get that CD for that song alone!
- Then, he followed it up immediately with "Chanson pour Les Petites Enfants" with the 12 string acoustic guitar (and whoever EVER said JB is a weak guitar player is flat out wrong....I play and I know)...he played it masterfully. What a beautiful song! Just to know that a guy who most non-Parrotheads think only sings about getting wasted in Margaritaville or getting drunk and screwing, has such a magical and insightful childrens' song in his repertoire gives ME goosebumps! phins way up to that!!

almost40pirate :

One of the dancers was Heather Perry, who was with the band a couple of years ago during the "Carnival Tour". I don't know the name of the other dancer, anyone else know?

Almost40: 'That's My Story & I'm Sticking To It', Pascagoula (sp?) Run', Carnival World'...in addition to 'Off To See The Lizard' -- buy the album, it's worth it! Phins up & thanks again (& yes, I love it whenever I hear him sing the 'Cincy' line). ;)

Highlights: Pine Knob opening the gates up early and relaxing alcohol enforcement; Oakland Co. Sherriff posing for a picture on his Harley with a lei around his neck and a blow-up doll on the rear seat; Patron margaritas and rum-soaked pineapple; Carnival-style conga/limbo line in parking lot; Mardi-gras style flashers; THOSE DANCERS!!!; Off to see the Lizard, Les Petits Enfants, Gypsies, Like a Lady; Great acoustic set, 4 great songs and very impressive 12-string work by Jimmy!!!

Lowlights: If it all falls down - not a good "last song"

Disgrace: No harmonica player at all!!!

Oh man, just got to work a couple of hours ago after driving the three hours back from Detroit and I have to say that Bubba makes the pain all worthwhile! We got in late (6pm) because of traffic and more than made up for the lack of time in an hour and a half and had a blast meeting all you new friends in the lot! I even asked a cop to stop for a pic as he was riding by on his motorcycle....and the guy smiled and said sure! I have a totally new respect for the sheriff's department, thanks to the fellas riding around with leis and parrots. They didn't hassle anybody....and the show was awesome! I was especially geeked to hear "Blonde Stranger" because that's one of my fave JB tunes. He poured out all the stops last night. Oh, and for anyone out there wishing they could see a PK show....do whatever you can (legally) to get tickets to this venue....the parking lot parties hard and the venue is small, which makes for a VERY fun evening. See everyone in Cincy! Fins UP! (Oh, I was the chick in the volcano hat....like that narrows things down)

I agree with Shannon...Pine Knob IS the place to see Buffett!!! I saw him at Cincy last year, and thought that WE party better! Okay I am VERY bias, since I live 2 mintues away and Cincy is a 5 hour drive. Not to mention I see EVERYONE at Knob here. I ended up partying with my ex-best friend! I haven't seen her in 6 years!

And how can you NOT leave a shower feeling AWESOME when Jimmy send a shot out to you....Thank you Sparkler people!!!!

Shannon - I saw you in your volcano hat! How in the world did you do that?

Thanks for the "get 'em legally". Got mine a week before "legally" and boy am I glad. My husband who went to the 2-8-98 at the Palace (inside, in winter with a snow storm) was somewhat converted, but NOTHING prepared him for last night. The minute we got there he started changing his clothes. I couldn't talk him into anything fun beforehand except his flip flops. Just in case you saw me I was the old hippy "pretending" to have a perfect 10 body (yeh right after 4 kids) in a cover up with a lime green bikini painted on it.

Special thanks to Richard who as soon as we pulled up told us to put away our carry out and started throwing cheeseburgers on his grill for us. What a great bunch of people.

The music was absolutely fabulous. The people we sat with were great. There was a fuddy duddy to my left that kept sitting down and crossing his arms. He was converted by the end of the night.

So many great songs, the harmonica was missed, but it did not take away from the show. Jolly Mon, my personal favorite Petite Enfants, but the most fun was the Let's Get Drunk and Screw karoke.

One down side was the fight my husband had to break up 3 times. Big guy picking on a smaller guy becuase they wouldn't move so he could put his blanket down. At the end, the big guy (after my husband had him in a choke hold with his knee at his throat and drug him to security) got the message. Must not have been a true Parrothead because I really don't think it's in us to be like that.

Even after the encores when the lights when on, everyone was still fun and gracious, maybe a little bit slower but fulfilled for now, until next time.

Thanks to all for such a good time!

agree with Ohio-the description from almost 40 left me with a big smile-looking forward to Nissan Saturday night-9 rows back...anticipation...

Also saw the note from Shady-I tried to listen in to RM with my 33.6, could not keep sustained. It was in and out every few words. Bought a 56k today-no cable modem service in our area yet. Will it help? and does anyone have any tips to getting better reception???

I agree with the post by Almost40 on last night's Pine Knob show, but I think I like "A Pirate Looks at 40" with Amy Lee better! It was great. Jimmy sounded wonderful and really looked like he was having a good time. I think he'll continue to tour for a long time. How do you get tickets in the 5th row center? We were on the lawn and it was a madhouse. I'm too old for all that Also, Pine Knob definitely needs to have restrooms that are accessible from the parking lot!!

To headparrothead.....Just read your review of "Off to See the Lizard" over on the discussion board reviews page. Thanks for the great descriptions....I really like when people describe music in terms of how it makes you feel or where it makes you feel like you are when hearing it...instead of just describing what it sounds like. Very insightful....you're a great writer. Looks like I'm "Off to see the guys at Best Buy" after work. ~~~~~/\~~~~~~

Hippy2 - you actually saw me in that sea of people??????? Cool! I made the volcano out of paper mache' and obvisouly had way too much time on my hands (can you tell I'm single?)...the tiki bar took the most effort, but for all the compliments (and free booze) I got, it was well worth the time.

Wasn't that the greatest show???? :) I still can't believe I was there!

I also was at the Pine Knob show last night. I was a little disappointed with the show. It looks like Buffett is starting to get a little tired or bored. I don't know maybe he wasn't feeling up to par. He just didn't seem to be into it as much as he usually is. I also really missed Fingers. Other than a few minor complaints it was a lot of fun and a great show. There is no tailgating like Pine Knob tailgating. Fins up!!!!
