Quck question ... Do I need to save the files I create from total recorder in any special format. I know they default to wav files. Will I be able to convert the wav files into cd files to burn cds. I know I will need software to convert them to cd format but I want to make sure I am recording the source in the right format to be able to convert them.

Any help would be appreciated

Since they're in the .WAV format, you shouldn't need to change them because that is "CD format". But if for some reason it does need to change it, your CD burning software should do that automatically. If you record the concert in mp3, your software should also convert it to .WAV for burning.

mp3 format will take up alot less room on your PC. A 3-4 hour recording should be about 375mg at 256/44,100

Oh I didn't know wav was cd format. Thanks, I thought I would have to convert it. I recorded last night's show in WAV format and it took up like 1.8 gig so knowing that I can do it in MP3 will be a big help. For storage that will be great. Is there a big performance difference between mp3 and wav? I mean if I do record in mp3 will it loose anything when I translate it back to wav ... quality wise.

Hey Cousin 500, did you pick up the MP3 codecs recommended by TR, there are some links on there website to point you in the direction.

I have not played with them yet, but have heard you should test them out before you try to record the first time to MP3.

I have heard of a quality loss between Wav and MP3, I can not tell the difference with some of the recording I have been given.

A .WAV file will be about 4 times bigger than the same file in .mp3 format. So for quality and space, you should keep mp3s on your computer, but when it comes time to burn the cd, use .WAV

To those of you who use Nero or easy Cd Creator----you can record CDs using Mp3s---just the quality will be a little less----what i have found out that works best is---as soon as you break up the show in wav format----put it on cd right away---then put it in MP3 formmat--so you can have a back up copy.
