If this is better suited in the Rest In Paradise thread, feel free to move. Yesterday when the song Bubbles Up came on it made me think that it has only been only nine months since Jimmy’s passing and thought even though it was only that long, it seemed it was a longer time ago. Anyone else feel that way too?

I get where you are coming from. I was never invested as deeply as some were, I enjoyed his music and I deeply appreciated who he was as a man and all he accomplished in his life. I was a late arrival to seeing him perform live as it only began in 2012 but was fortunate to see him every year until 2019. It feels like it's been a lot longer than 9 months since he passed but that may be as time seems to go fast the older we get. I am grateful that there was a man named Jimmy Buffett who brought joy to many. FINS UP

I have a hard time listening to Bubbles Up. When Jimmy was recording this song, he knew he was dying and made this song his final gift to us.
As I listen to it, I thinkabout how he would sing it in concert and I get sad because that will never happen....

I have known very sick people who comforted loved ones who were distraught over the circumstances. Bubbles Up is Jimmy comforting us. I'm tearing up typing this.

Bubbles up is his gift to us. It’s hard for me to believe he is gone. We have definitely lost a family member, and had to go through the grieving process, weird as that sounds.
“Just know that you are loved, there’s light up above. And the joy, is always enough…”

That gets me EVERY time.

I love the song. I love what it means. When it first came out, I had to change the channel... Now I can listen to it, but I cry every time.

Took me a while too and it took me a while to listen to the stories of the songs on the album too.

This is exactly where I've been and still am with this song, and album. It's quite tough.
Cheers.

I love Bubbles Up. I don't cry every time any more. I do sometimes, but not that often, really.
I got to hear Mac sing it last night in person, and I didn't cry. But Pirates and Parrots got me bawling. It's all situational.
But regardless, Bubbles Up is beautiful, and I'm glad we have it.

I rarely listen to it. When I do, I still get a little emotional. Not sure what a therapist would say about that, but I don't really care. I just hung a painting in my office of Buffett that I commissioned. Everyone grieving process is going to be different, and thank goodness for this community!

“Bubbles Up” is such a great “good bye” song. I go days without out thinking about Buffett’s passing, then it hits me and I am so bummed. Though I hadn’t seen him live since 2011, I’d seen him over 100 times since 1980. He was such a huge part of and influence on my life. From the way he lived, where he lived to the authors and musicians he sang about. I hear from friends occasionally, they tell me they are bummed about Buffett’s passing and I just text them the words, “Bubbles Up” and that helps them (us) get through until the next time.

I read something I liked shortly after he passed, it may have been here on BN. I don’t remember it verbatim, but it was something along the lines of how humans have existed for thousands of years, and we were fortunate enough to have lived in the same time and place as Jimmy Buffett.

It's an emotional song for sure. At first it really got me, particularly the lyric most have already mentioned. But after listening to others Jimmy knew including his family I don't view the song as a sad one anymore but rather one of hope and encouragement that things will get better no matter what you're going through.
Now if you want to talk about something that always gives me a lump in my throat it's Pirates and Parrots. Every time I hear Zac sing "adios my friend . . . " it just hits me hard. Every. Single. Time. Jimmy's passing is still very personal to me.

since I have a clinical degree in social work and several years in the biz, I would tell you pretty much what you said. Everyone’s grieving process is different and things that don’t tug at you one time can lay you out flat another.
I thought that the weekend at Here We Are would make me an emotional wreck, but I only teared up once or twice. The sense of joy and fun overrode the sad feelings. However, I bawled a few times in the ride home as certain songs played in my playlist.
In short, we all loved him and have several stories of how his music is the foundation of our lives. I love that we are able to share our grief with each other. It helps.
