Car Checkup Thursday @ the MSC

Good morning!

More fun today - taking my car to get checked, looks like I have an oil leak. Tho one of our very nosy neighbors came to our door yesterday and told me about the leak. Yes, I know - already have an appointment for this morning. He said (get this), he tasted it, and it's antifreeze. Yes, he's a weird one. Years ago he almost set our building on fire by starting up an oversized grill. He's an idiot.

Hope you all have a great Thursday!! :D

Good Morning Penny, those to come!

OMG Penny....I'll be gentle & say, what a knucklehead this neighbor must be!! [smilie=graytard.gif]
Cars are such a frustrating thing. I$$ues can pop up at any time. But they are a necessity for most of us so that's that! So hopeful the check up proves to be of the best case scenario.
Today's heat will be about peak for our summer, temps in lower 90's with the "real feel" over 100.
My real feel is gonna pretty much be in A/C all day :pirate:
Lynn begins another dog sitting run in which she'll be home for 6 of the 19 nights. :o

Enjoy your 24th day of July Gang!

Good morning Penny and Ken.

Today is National Tequila Day. I will not be observing the holiday but I will have a beer. Or maybe 2.

Last night on the 11:00 news the weather girl said we're in for a heat wave over the weekend. The heat index should be up near 110 and in some areas it might hit 115. :o

Good morning, Ken and Penny. At least you are retired and can deal with the car, Penny.
We had a fantastic time with Peter Mayer. Around 50 people were seated in the bar and we were up front with Peter 12 feet away. He played Last Island, Blue Guitar, which was worth the trip. He did some Beatles and Buffett. Brendan sang several songs and his cover of Everybody's Talking At Me was incredible! Peter ended with several accoustic numbers, laying off the stage. He sang Morning Star right over Anne.
A couple visited with us before the show. They were familar, so I asked the wife who was beside me,"Is your husband, Marty?" She replied yes, so I asked"Are you Mo?" I told her our paths have crossed several times. The husband was Martyritaville.

Sounds wonderful, Bill!!! 😄

Much toooo hot, Larry!! 😵‍💫

So, I dropped off my car at 9:30, and I said I'd wait, cause walking back home is a bit much for my back. They had a nice young guy drive me home. 😃 I just got the call..
To do the coolant system leak work today, $1300+. They'll put some dye in my oil system and I'll drive it around for a week or so, then bring it back so they can determine where the leak is. None is caused by animal chewing. They'll send someone back to get me in a few hours. Sigh. 🫤

Right there with you, phriend. Winona (the old blue Pathfinder some of you might remember) had a water pump go out recently, too.

Sucks getting old, for our cars too.

She had some other work done, too, and I got a good deal on it, but I'm still worried about other things. We shall see...

Our washing maching stopped working a couple of days ago, the display flashed a "DL" error code. I consulted with Dr Bing, Dr Google, and Dr Youtube and found out that something was wrong with the door latch. I called Sears Repair and they sent a guy out yesterday ($109 just to come out and diagnose the problem) who verified the error and said that it was a flat fee of $600 for the repair, but he needed to order the part. I asked him how much the part was and he said he didn't know, that the $600 was a flat fee, including parts and labor, no matter how long it took. Based on my surfing, I already knew that the part was about $25.
I told him that we'd only paid $699 for the washer six years ago and I had to think about it and I'd get back to him, maybe we'd just buy a new washer. After he left, I ordered a replacement door latch on Amazon ($28.19 plus tax) and got it this morning. Having watched him take the switch out yesterday to check it, it was an easy peasy task for me today to install the new one. It took me about half an hour.....

Tequila, of course I’ll have some!

Well done, Mr. SPH!!! :D

My car is still at the AutoHospital. Otherwise known as BIG-O tire company (and they do so much more). It's not done. They've found more and more leaks with the coolant system. We've been going to them for years, so REALLY trust them. They're saving all the parts they replace so we can see the issues. I'm now up to $2200... :( However, I mentioned I had an eye doctor appointment (only 5 minutes away) and they offered for one of their employees to drive me over. :o

Sounds like great customer service, unfortunate ole Betsy needing that much TLC.😕

They always have great customer service, Ken. Honest, pleasant, and often funny. :D Betsy is 10 years old, and only 93,000 miles. The tech I've been speaking to said that Chevy Cruzes have a history of these kind of issues. :(

Chevy has other issues. Two friends had to replace transmissions with moderate mileage.

Mrs SPH's car is 10 years old too and has 35,000 miles on it. It was 2 years old and had about 18,000 miles on it when we bought it... she's put about 17,000 on it in the 8 years since. It's literally a car that's "driven by a little old lady to church on Sunday and once a week to the grocery store." (Don't tell her I said that.) When we got it, we gave her previous car to one of our she-'keets [smilie=battingeyes.gif] ... it was 10 years old and had 28,000 miles on it.

Our cars resemble Mrs. SPH's! Mine turned 10 on April 1st and just hit 36K last week, while SoulMate's is 9.5 years okd but has a whopping 41K
Having had a loaner recently of the 2025 version of my vehicle... all I can say is I am NOT interested in "upgrading" I did not like the loaner AT ALL!
Even simple things like radio volume have to be done on a touch screen - very distracting, IMO! Give me knobs! And the shifter worked more like a joystick... which I found very odd, and I actually NEEDED the tech's offered demonstration of how to get it into the right gears, :o I thought he was just being funny when he asked if I wanted him to show me until I looked down and did not see the letters P, R,N,D anywhere. You guessed it... they showed up on the stupid screen!
