Re: Oktoberfest Saturday @ the MSC
Good afternoon Penny and Debbie.
I went to a beer tasting class at Total Wine today, 8 Oktoberfest beers. Three were from local craft brewers, one from Sierra Nevada which is from California but they also have a brewery in North Carolina and 4 from Germany. Unfortunately for me I had all 8 of them before so I paid for a beer tasting of beers I already tasted. Oh well. My Beer Of The Month Club delivery came yesterday and 2 of this month's 5 beers are Oktoberfests so I can drink one of them later.
The Pelicans playoff run ended pretty quickly. It was a best of 3 series, they lost the first game 4-1 and the second game 2-1. Wait 'til next year.

Hi there! I'm trying to lose weight, so not much beer drinking here.
If I wasn't fishing in this all day rain,I'd be home doing something stupid.

Hey Folks!
I got my flu shot at 4 yesterday afternoon and then slept until 8 this morning. I took a 2-mile walk around the neighborhood and just came back from a few hours playing roulette & a "nickel" game with some ladies I met at yoga. There were way too many snacks and Kevin just threw some smoked sausage on the grilled that we will have with some mashed potatoes. I won't be eating too much as I still snacked full.
I also feel sleepy which Im pretty sure is from the shot -- BUT -- at least the person that stuck me didn't hit bone this year

That was a bit annoying... was there a list of brews to be tasted available before you paid? Hopefully the price was at least close to the equivalent of paying for that amount of beer.LIPH wrote: September 13, 2025 3:27 pm Good afternoon Penny and Debbie.

The flu shot I had in 2022 knocked me for a loop... high fever and just achy and very tired for 24 hours! It was si bad I got tested to make sure I had not contracted COVID, but that was negative and by the next day I felt fine.Saltx3 wrote: September 13, 2025 5:14 pm Hey Folks!

Then in 2023, I had an allergic reaction to it... itchy mouth and tongue... some Benadryl (children's liquid PEG-free) took care of that, but my Primary suggested I not get them anymore.

They never have a list of the beers ahead of time. The classes cost $10 but since I belong to Total Wine's rewards program I get a 50% discount. South Carolina state law limits beer samples to 1 oz. each and no more than 8 oz. total so I paid $5 for 8 oz. of beer. But they have free snacks at all of the classes.Caribbean Soul wrote: September 13, 2025 5:42 pmThat was a bit annoying... was there a list of brews to be tasted available before you paid? Well, that's same deal they have here in CO, too. (At least I think it is). They have several free classes, but they are usually weekday's so we don't usually attend.LIPH wrote: September 13, 2025 6:46 pm

Oktoberfest was fun, and they had a vendor market at the same time. All sorts of vendors with artwork, spices, pickled things, tie-dye stuff, candles, and such. Our friend Jake is always there with his amazing soaps https://www.tworavenssoap.com/. We got several things today. Good food truck (I had a brat and sauerkraut). Our longtime friend and owner of the brewery showed up and we had a great visit. We saw many friends who are owners or head brewers of breweries in the area.
Came home and just had some snack foods. Watching baseball, temps are down to mid 50's with some thunderstorms rolling through.
See ya in the morning!

Never knew it had a name. And I have never had such terrible issues - and I have to give a pint of blood every 5-6 weeks due to my Hemochromatosis.SeattleParrotHead wrote: September 13, 2025 9:46 pmSee? See? See? I stopped having various vaccines since I left the hospital. I NEVER had a flu shot before I worked there, haven't had the flu for a zillion years before I worked there.
G'night all.

Another South Carolina law limits the days and hours of beer tastings. The classes are always Saturday at noon. Sunday is the other day they're allowed to do tastings, they never have classes on Sunday but sometimes they'll have someone from a brewery or a beer distributor giving free samples for a couple of hours in the afternoon.SMLCHNG wrote: September 13, 2025 10:02 pmWell, that's same deal they have here in CO, too. Glad you had that discount, but $5 for 8 oz is still a bit pricey... I trust you consumed ample snacks to compensate!LIPH wrote: September 13, 2025 6:46 pmThey never have a list of the beers ahead of time.
