Good morning Linda and Debbie!
Off in a little while to pick up the death certificate.. Just waiting for usual morning traffic to pass a bit.
Then I have to contact AAA and the Ford dealer to see what's wrong with E's vehicle.
I'll be dropping off one of the certificates to the HR person from his job, who just happens to live in the same apartment complex that we do, so I don't have to fuss getting into his office.
That's about all for me..

Good morning ladies (and future arrivals to the MSC). The latest atmospheric river is flowing through the Upper LH Corner this morning, so I'll probably just lay low here at Casa Johnson and poke around in youtube rabbit holes for most of the day. At some point MrsSPH will say something like "are you just going to sit at the computer all day?" and I'll remind her that I did just that for a living for many years.

Good morning peoples.
I had jury duty this morning. I was in the courthouse at 9:00 and out by 9:12. In South Carolina being 65 or older is an automatic exemption. You can serve on a jury if you choose to but they can't make you. I embraced my oldness. I recognized one of the other prospective jurors, she works in the pharmacy at Walgreens. She's a very attractive young lady, except for the blue hair and the ring in her nose.

Those nose rings are so off putting! They look like a shiny nose dripping.
I was called once and drove an hour to the county courthouse for one day. They settled out of court. During the OJ trial a legal pundit said jury duty is the only form of indentured servitude. I like the 65 exclusions. We need that here. Oh, Linda said we do have it.

Back from getting the death certificates and the little urns I'll be giving to family members. Then stopped for gas, gave the HR person one of the original DC's, and she'll scan me a picture so I can save it for when people just need a copy. I saw the urn, and it's beautiful. He would have been proud.
Texted AAA to come tow the car to the Ford Dealer... let's see how painful this is going to be.
Larry - glad you didn't have to serve on the jury!

You guys made me have to look it up:
Yes, in Colorado, you generally do have to serve on jury duty after age 65, as there is no automatic age-based exemption, though you can request to be excused for hardship or health reasons, a proposed bill to allow age-based opt-outs was recently vetoed by the Governor. Colorado is one of the few states without a standard senior opt-out, but you can still ask for a postponement or excusable by contacting the court if you have a valid reason like serious illness or hardship, notes

Same in PA.
So THAT'S why they don't call me anymore.

It's a little chilly today, when I left to go to the courthouse this morning it was 33 degrees. I went to Bohemian Bull for lunch. They have a patio and one of those roll up garage type doors between the bar and the patio. I told the bartender it was colder inside than it was outside. She said the garage door didn't go all the way down so the bar was the coldest spot in the building and "I'm S-O-L". Being a former lawyer, I immediately thought "statute of limitations". I'm pretty sure that's not what she meant.

Up here in raintown, the city, county, and state laws all say that you have duty to serve on a jury but you can request to be excused for hardship or health reasons. The only age limitation in the codes is that King County Superior Court's ordinance does say "A person who is 80 years of age or older may request to be excused from jury service if the person attests that the person is unable to serve due to health reasons."
EIGHTY? And then you still need an excuse?

It is 70 here in MA... and I will most DEFINITELY use it the next time I am called!!
I've been summoned 3 times after I was 65!

Luckily, each time I called in the night before, my assigned number was not needed.
Now I won't have the "will I or won't I" angst as I can mail in my summons with the "Over 70" exclusion checked!
Penny - I hope you get good news on Rin's car. It's been years, but if it is the starter, I recall it was not a big $$ repair.

Thanks Elaine and Jerry!

AAA got the car to start with a battery jump, and we both smelled this 'sweet' smell (I smelled it yesterday). So at least it was able to drive up onto the tow truck bed.
Hopefully the vehicle is an easy fix, and it'll be ready on Wednesday. My family friend, Misty, will drive me to the dealership, which is nice.
