National Margarita Day Sunday at the MSC

Post by PetalMel »

They say it is National Margarita Day. I might make one after I get through my literal laundry list of chores today. Woke up to a dusting of snow after several days of above freezing temps.

Glad our Aussie got some rain. Hope it stuck around long enough to help the drought and heat. Hoping others aren’t buried again under snow—one of my high school friends lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She posted a pic of her out shoveling her front walk and the snow piles are literally taller than she is. They have close to six feet of snow on the ground with more falling. What little humor I have left would be buried if I lived there.

Enjoy your Sunday all! 💕🍹💕
well, ummmmmmm, yah, I guess I better come up with something witty to put in this spot since everyone is reading it.......

Good morning Mel, and BN! :)

I saw your post on FB, and knew you'd open the Café with this title!!! :D

Still no snow here, w/c is 4 degrees, heading to about 50 today.

One of Kathy's good friends/neighbors has 2 adult sons, and they're coming over today to pick up and look through E's baseball card collection, to see if they're worth anything. I'd rather share any $ with them, IF they're worth anything.

That's it for now from here. :D

Not gonna lie—this HAD to be the title today otherwise it would have been a super missed opportunity 😆

I am sure E had some cards with value—even if it is sentimental. I have some Tiger cards that don’t have much monetary value but mean the world to me. I love that you are sharing E’s passion with others. I always will remember how he would post a Cardinals logo for Spring Training. Made me smile.

Some of his special Cardinals stuff I gave to a good friend of ours. He was the tasting room Manager at Lone Tree. He stepped down last year to help care for his father. Mike started to cry when I gave him all the things. He and E always gave me crap about the Rockies. :D But he's taking me to a Cardinals/Rockies game in September. :D

Good morning ladies. I remember buying baseball cards at the corner grocery store. The cards were used to sell a terrible chewing gum. I had several packs of cards, read the stats of the players and tried sharing my new found baseball knowlege with other kids. They didn't care. We lived a hundred miles from the nearest team and pro baseball watching wasn't a thing. I threw the cards away at some point.
If I wasn't fishing in this all day rain,I'd be home doing something stupid.

Some of E's cards have an autograph on them, including a couple that have "To Ron".. So, we'll see.

Hello Mel, Penny, and Bill. Just preparing for the blizzard heading our way. Big bummer last night: cable was out around 10pm, so I couldn't catch my favorite weekend show. I've missed it for the past three weeks.

Bellingham (MA) is set for about two feet of snow...and that's on top of the one foot that's still on the ground at my place. Stay warm and safe, everyone! :D :D :D
Jerry...from Massachusetts. I'd like to go where it's warm! :D

USA! USA! USA!
I turned the TV on just in time to see the winning OT goal. Good job team! The medal award ceremony was a contrast in emotions; the Canadians were so dejected and our guys were so happy. In most sports, even though the Silver and Bronze medal winners are disappointed that they didn't win gold, they are happy that they at least won a medal. Not here, it looked like none of the Canadians wanted a thing to do with those damn Silver medals.Image

Great picture, Mr. SPH. I agree with you. The Canadian team had two Avalanche players, and I felt bad (just a little) for them. And they all looked almost angry at their team loss. :o

Very happy for team USA. :D Lots of emotions there. :D

Great victory for the USA Hockey today! Was happy for the guys & especially goaltender Hellebucyk. Star of the game! Has been one of the best in the regular season for the Jets for a few years but has the label of not coming through in the clutch for playoffs. He was clutch x 10 today! Plus him being a Michigander gives him a little more cred in my book. :pirate:

Went & saw comedian Dusty Slay last night. He does a spiel on the song Five O'Clock Somewhere. Skip ahead to the 1:30 mark if you want to hear/see it. First half of show last night good, second half disappointing IMO but the crowd seemed to enjoy it so there's that. No cursing, F-bombs or politics so doesn't really alienate anyone...I guess thats a good thing. [smilie=noeyedear-shrugging.gif]

Enjoy your Sunday Funday everyone

Very similar to the expressions that the Canadian women had about their Silvers. It is said that the Bronze medal winners have it better (though the Finns did not come back for the ceremony) because they end with a WIN.

I'll be honest, if Canada were playing any other team, I'd have been rooting for them... but not today!

Great photo, btw!
And I seriously think Jack Hughes needs to get a GOLD front tooth to replace the one he left on the ice! :D

Isn't Brock Nelson of the US team on the Avalanche too? What a story for him... his grandfather and great Uncle won Gold in 1920 and his uncle won one in 1980! Great gilded genes in that family!! :D

And on to other sports~ish stuff...
Again... I love how you are sharing E's sports memorabilia with folks who will appreciate them and E's memory.

And HAPPY MARGARITA DAY TO ALL WHO CELEBRATE!

Yep, I forgot about him, as he just joined the Av's last year. (With Roku streaming, we don't get a lot of NHL games). :)

And thank you.. I'm trying to do right by what I think E would want. [smilie=hearts.gif]

Brock Nelson's grandfather, Bill Christian, won gold at the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics alongside his great-uncle, Roger Christian. His uncle Dave Christian captured gold as a member of the Miracle on Ice team that shocked the Soviet Union on February 22, 1980, exactly 46 years before Nelson's triumph.
:D How cool is that? I had no idea! :)

BIG bummer indeed on your cable... :(
Do you have Verizon? We have Xfinity, and ours was fine last night.

This week, we finally had some grass visible (OK, only over the septic, but still  ) after 5 weeks of not seeing any, only to have it covered again Friday night. After the N'oreaster tonight/Monday, I suspect it will be at least another month before we see any again! Oh, well... it's good for the water table!

Devon Toews from the Avalanche was on the Canadian team too. Nelson has another great uncle who was on the 1956 Olympic hockey team and won a silver medal. Nelson and Toews are also both former NY Islanders.

The Hurricanes had 5 players in the Olympics - one won gold, one won silver and one won bronze. The other two are both from Denmark and they were eliminated in the quarterfinals. There were three former Hurricanes on the U.S. team.

Hughes family trivia -
Quinn was the 7th overall pick in the draft in 2018
Jack was the 1st overall pick in the draft in 2019
Their younger brother Luke, who plays for the Devils, was the 4th overall pick in the draft in 2022
