Congrats to those Carolina hockey fans today.

I had a wonderful visit with Sarah and Cameron yesterday. They were here for about 4 hours, we ate bacon/eggs/hash browns/French toast. Then we watched "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" and it was silly, funny, kinda scary, and a little frustrating... but overall, I liked the movie. And I got all of the dishes from "Brinner" to fit into the dishwasher. (It helps when you barely fill up the dishwasher over a weeks time).

Taking Cameron to the eye doctor tomorrow, because I have to take in one of my new pairs, to be repaired from my fall in the yard at my sisters yard (picking up pine cones).

Hello Penny & my other BN friends who stop by !

I'm glad you had a nice visit with the "kids" . Those types of things can keep us going for awhile. Our son's family will be here for a week in July. Now that Lincoln is 2-1/2 it will make the visit super exhausting but it's worth it. With Austin at 12-1/2 he has a completely different set of interests and schedule but it will still be fun.

Not sure what our weather holds for today - it's overcast right now but that's always nice to have in the middle of oppressive heat. I just saw an article that the Waccamaw River (which runs across the street and way down the hill from us) is several feet below normal.

We'll be sunny and in the 80's today. And ALL of our rivers, ponds, and other bodies of water are low. No, or limited, watering of all yards and such.

Leaving at 10:00 to head to the eye doctor, and later this afternoon I have a haircut.

Good morning Penny and Linda.

I thought I might miss the game last night. The thunderstorm had stopped a couple of hours before the hockey game started but about 9:00 my power went out. It came back on a few minutes later and when my cable box finally rebooted I only missed about 4 or 5 minutes early in the second period.

The Hurricanes had some milestones last night. Their captain, Jordan Staal, won the Conn Smythe Trophy as Most Valuable Player in the playoffs. He's 37 years old, the oldest player ever to win it. Their best defenseman, Jaccob Slavin, was on the U.S. Olympic team that won the gold medal back in February. He's the second American hockey player to win Olympic gold and the Stanley Cup in the same year. The first was Ken Morrow of the NY Islanders in 1980. Their goalie, Brandon Bussi, is the first goalie to make his first 3 playoff starts in the final round and win all 3 of them. Taylor Hall scored the first goal last night and since the final score was 3-0, his goal was the game winning goal. He was the first overall pick in the draft 16 years ago. He's only the 4th first overall pick to score a Stanley Cup winning goal. They have 2 players from Denmark. They're only the second and third Danes to ever win the Stanley Cup.

I don't know if other teams had done this in the past, but the Hurricanes had 4 extra players on the roster for the playoffs. When the game ended, all of them came out on the ice in full uniform. It's tradition for the commissioner to present the Stanley Cup to the captain of the winning team, then it gets passed to each player so they have a chance to skate around the ice with the Cup. I wonder if they had those 4 players in uniform so they would have a chance to skate with the Cup?

Ugh! I had an appointment at 9:00 to take MrsSPH's car in for an oil change. I started it up and drove out of the garage and then realized that I had left my reading glasses in the house and so I stopped the car in the driveway and went back into the house. When I went back out to the car, it wouldn't start; dead battery? It's on a battery charger now.... fingers crossed! Never had a problem before, but the car is eleven years old and a new battery probably wouldn't be a bad idea. My battery charger is at least thirty years old, do any of you have any experience with those battery jump packs?

I would hope so. The whole team deserves to skate with the Cup. And I was happy for the team.

So after the eye doctor, Cameron and went and had some lunch. Then we went to "Cost Plus World Market". There was a lot of fun things and foods in there. I saw some glasses with parrots, palm trees, and pineapples on them. Started to make me cry. But Cameron described the place as "A real nice indoor flea market". Great description.

And looks like I can get the lenses repaired at no cost, since I've only had them less than 30 days.

Putting a wrap on day 1 of another work week.
Today is our only scheduled "pleasant" day up until Friday. Rain & below average high temps of about 70 starting tomorrow afternoon.
Had a neat interaction with a hummingbird yesterday morning. While putting one of the hummingbird feeders up that I normally take inside nightly,
I heard the buzz of him. I stood still next the feeder & reached my hand out. While he didn't land on my hand he did eventually land on the
feeder with my outstretched fingers a mere 2 inches away from him. Wish I had had some nectar residue on my fingers at the time. Would have been interesting to see if he would have take a nibble. Unfortunately I had suet residue on them. Maybe next time.

It is common place for all roster guys who don't dress for the game to put their uniforms & skates on prior to the Cup presentation so they have the opportunity to skate with the Cup. Legendary Coach Scotty Bowman is the only known coach who has put the skates on himself in order to skate with the Cup postgame doing so twice while coaching the Red Wings.

Something else that was kind of cool was Carolina has a postgame tradition at their home games of doing a salute if you will to their fans by gathering in a circle at center ice & raising their sticks in unison to the crowd. There were probably a couple thousand Carolina fans in Las Vegas to witness this game. After the team's on ice celebration & before leaving the ice a number of the players replicated their home "salute" to those fans. I thought that was pretty cool.

The pool was awesome. Empty enough and cool enough. There was a woman from the Town Homes that I had met briefly before and made an assumption based on some of her community FB pages that I wasn't really interested in pursing a friendship. I saw her there today and put that assumption aside to give her another chance. Since the pool was pretty empty I sat down beside her.....what a big mistake. All she did was complain about everyone and everything in our community -- comparing it to her home and HOA in Nevada (she's only lived here 6 months - with her 90 yr old mom). Ugh -- I interacted as little as possible. I tried to steer the conversation about things like how our electric "peak hours" work, the weather where she & I both came from, etc. She has a very vulgar language and speaks very loud. I kept saying, "maybe talk a little lower since voices seem to echo around our pool". She ignored me (maybe she didn't hear me???) I spent a lot of time in the water and she kept following me there and interacting with some of the (good neighbor) kids using the same language. She was still there when I left. I won't make the mistake of sitting beside her again.

Oh BTW -- I did not get a seat on our HOA Board. There were 6 applicants.

The Board Pres for our first yr in 2025, then vice-pres for 2026, who resigned 2 weeks ago is now back on the board.....with one of his golf buddies

I was one of 6 who expressed interest.

Hi there! A friend had a big dumpster so I purged. I filled my Rav quite full and removed a lot of stuff that would not fit in a trash bag.

Linda, I was trapped on a Buffett bus with a guy so negative that the club president suggested the club wasn't a good fit for him. He quit the club.

Larry - wow, that's a lot of game stats!! And yes I think the extra players probably were dressed for the cup passing! Kudos to their coach!

National Grid came by today (no prior notice other than an email Friday that said "in the next few weeks) to switch out our electric meter to a "smart" one... something we do not even want, but if we opt-out there would be a $26 PER MONTH surcharge
Anyway, it was supposed to be a easy-peasy few minute job...
Yeah, right... apparently there is something wrong with the block our current meter is in and we need an electrician (at our own expense ) to fix it before NG's contractor can make the swap! ARRRGH!!!

They call it the Storm Surge. When they first started doing it a few years ago they used to do a little skit along with the salute to the fans. One time Evander Holyfield came out on the ice and got into a fake fight with one of the players.

IF your surgery is the same as mine, the worst part was waiting for the numbness and dilation to kick in. That seemed to feel like an hour'ish. And, for me, we didn't have to change into any kind of surgical clothing, just had on sweats and a t-shirt. The actual surgery felt like it took 10 minutes, at most. And I didn't feel a thing. And they played JB the first time, and ZBB the second time. The only discomfort was removing the tape over my eyes/face.

Awesome!!! I'm pretty lucky to have 3 dumpsters just a few feet from my new garage, and I had 3 dumpsters up the (steep) sidewalk from my old apartment. I dumped a LOT of stuff that E kept... and yes, some of mine, too.
