How do we handle this?

War is upon us, and it looks as if our boys and girls will be in the middle of a fight within days. How do we party, when our boys are putting their lives on the line for our Country. I'm one proud American Parrot Head, and I've very excited to see Jimmy in Houston, but at the same time I don't know how I will handle partying while a war is on? I guess an evening with Jimmy and the Reefers will be a good way to eascape from it all at least for an evening, and I'm guessing it is times like these when we NEED our favorite entertainers. FINS UP!

My guess is the actual "war" lasts anywhere b/t 2-3 days to a week tops. After that it'll be strictly "occupation". We're going to strike hard and fast and they have very little opposition. The "war" won't drag through the summer concert series.

Last year our very own School Girl Heart was sent to the Far Side of the World and had to miss several shows. We sent lots of phin power out for her safe return and continued to party and enjoy ourselves with her in our hearts and minds. Unfortunately she may be faced with being sent to the warmer climates again and although we hope in our deepest hearts it dosn't happen we will continue to party and pray for her should it happen because we know that she wouldn't want it any other way. We are proud of her and all our troups placing themselves in harms way.

From the perspective of someone who spent half of last year on the Far Side, here’s what you do.

You go to the show and have a blast!!

You toast the troops at the tailgater. You scream your lungs out, because some of the lucky ones are able to listen to the show on RM at 4AM. You hope Jimmy dedicates a song to them. You take a couple of hours to have fun.

Then you go home and make sure your flag is flying. You spread the word: whether you agree or disagree with the leadership of the country on whether or not there SHOULD be a war, that those troops didn’t get a say, and they are out there protecting our freedoms and our way of life. If you are displeased with the decisions of the country’s leadership, PLEASE don’t take it out on the troops. Thank God we live in a free country where we’re allowed to disagree, but please remember that it’s those volunteers in the military who protect the *right* to disagree.

If you know someone over there, maybe even a Parrot Head, send email, snail mail, and care packages. Nothing touched my heart last year like getting a box full of goodies from people who hardly knew me... It *still* brings tears to my eyes!

Hug your kids, your loved ones, your friends. They might not be here tomorrow. It’s a dangerous world, and life is a fragile thing.............

(Pssssst... P.S. It's not just our "boys" who'll be fighting, but our "girls", too.... and we'll be praying hard for every, single one of them to return home safely.)

I think our part in the war, as civilians, is to continue our lives and daily routines, while praying for the service men and women defending us, as well as America's leaders to make the "best" decisions on our behalf. Bogging ourselves down with worry & guilt (and anger toward the evil scumbags) will not aid the war effort in anyway, and it will take away from living up to our potential.

In times of war and peace, we should all try to embrace life and enjoy it to it's fullest, since we never know when it will end. When we go to concerts, let's take a moment to acknowledge and honor the brave souls fighting for our freedom, and another moment to reflect on all we can be thankful for, including Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band.

Let's keep faith, trust, hope, and love in our hearts.

I don't always agree with what the government does, but you still need to stand behind the folks who are affected by the big wig's decisions, and be thankful for what they're doing.

I'm living my life like I always have. If I didn't, they're already winning. When your number is up, your number is up, and you shouldn't let that thought keep you from living your life to it's fullest.

If you want to go have fun, then do it, but that doesn't mean you can't set some time aside for serious thoughts of a potential war (key word, "potential"). But the important thing is to go have fun!

I hope these "words of phisdom" help someone.

The brave men and women that will be fighting for our freedom and safety are also fighting to maintain our way of life. In essence, they are fighting for our country so we are free to party and have fun and go about our lives as usual.

And I can't thank them enough for that.

But agreed with the general tone of the conversation. Regardless of my feelings about the current administrations policies and the risks it places me and my family at, you can't take it out on the servicemen and women. We made that mistake in Vietnam. Protest your government and its policies, but cherish and support the men and women who do as their ordered, without question or hesitation. Guaranteed they don't want to be there either and frankly, I'm glad they do their job as well as they do. We need them to act without question because we need them to be there when the cause is vital to our security.

Thanks for everything you, and the rest of our armed service members do for us Schoolgirl Heart. Aside from my prayers for the troops we will have a toast at our tailgate party (I know some of the troops would prefer the toast

), and I too hope Jimmy will dedicate a song or show to those Parrot Heads serving our country.

I am sooooooo glad to hear everyone say "no matter what you think of the administrations decisions - don't take it out on the service men and women" I JUST had this conversation with HS and how concerned I am about having our troops treated like those in Vietnam. I could go on and on about how important (IMHO) it is NOT to do that but I think I'd be "preaching to the choir"

As for how to "act" when and if we go to war......SGH and others have already said it quite well....but let me add one thing:

CARE PACKAGES!!!!!!!!!!

I know my son appreciated them when he was in boot camp (and so did the rest of his platoon) and it was tons of fun to get one together for SGH last year.......not only does it lift the spirit of the "troops" but it makes you feel like you are contributing in some small way as well.

okay, so NOW I'm bawlin'...... Lee and I probably have relatively few political views in common, yet he is one of my most cherished friends, in part because of this very thing; he separates people from politics. No matter what he thinks of the administration and it's policies, he has UNFAILINGLY supported the people in the armed forces. THIS IS WHAT MAKES THIS COUNTRY GREAT!!!!!!!

I totaley agree we have to live life as normal as possible, I work at directv
and you would not believe how many people are calling in to shut off service
"just becuse of the way things are" "or you know with the war and all"
I want to scream at them and say are you afraid that the first attacks on America will be limited to the houses with DISHES on their house?
live life right,keep pluggin along, send prayers and make time to
scare up a CARE package for the troops. And yes both of my bros-in law
served over there one in Vietnam where koolaid and jello were the
hot tickets and the other in Desert Storm where it was Mom's jerky
that was the first out of box. I don't have anyone over there yet
so if you let me know an address or three I will get my road parrot
sister over and we will bake some cookies and brownies and fix
up some packs that show we CARE. Wayne

As a veteran myself, let's just pray for a safe return to all of our men & women stationed in the Gulf, Asia, Europe, etc. I can honestly tell you that they would hope we would live our lives as "normal" as possible if war does occur. So as we attend the shows this year let's remember to toast those who protect our country and give us the freedom that we have. Like many folks, I am not really on board with attacking Iraq, but, let's not take it out on our troops.
