I Believe in 'Songlines'

Post by Parrotthed »

I just finished reading Bruce Chatwin's book, "The Songlines," and now I fully understand what Jimmy means when he talks about them (such as in the song "Far Side of the World.").
The Austrailian aborigines believe each of them have songlines to follow across the terrain ... the songlines having been created by the first people who "sang" the world into existence.
It occurs to me that that is what Buffett has done: He has "sung" a world into existence — a place, which could be loosely called "Margaritaville," and a way of life.
And many of us are now following his "songlines" on our journeys through life.
Just some food for thought....

Great concept - sounds like a book I need to look into.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Songlines

If I had to pick a Buffett song for my songline as I travel through this tumultuous thing called life, it would have to be........................"Trying To Reason With Hurricane Season"
"I still remember Captain Harry's Blue Marlin Bar......."

Other books by Chatwin you might want to read are "In Patagonia", and "What Am I Doing Here". The latter is a collection of essays published just before he died. Both are good reads.
Now I've got a terminal daydream,
That's something you'll never know
I keep it right here in my backpack, mon
And I take it wherever I go.

Thanks for the thoughts!
I wondered about songlines and what they were.
This clarifies a lot! :)
