No, this is totally different than the Dennis Leary version, i found out a bit more information and I guess the song is actually called the I-95 song or the I-95 A** hole song, something along those lines. It is very funny song what ever title you want to give it.

This topic seems to come up every couple of months... here's one of the old threads:

I remember the song on old quarter-fed jukeboxes back in the day. The talking in the beginning sounds a lot like Jimmy to me, but not so much the song. Has it been determined whether Jimmy ever covered it anywhere?

Is there any evidence of this?ShrimperDan wrote:and Jimmy did do the I95 song.
I think that's the root of the question - can anyone find ANY proof that Jimmy ever covered the song. There's a lot of people who think he DID cover it, but I've seen nothing that establishes that fact in a legitimate way.
And the original recording by Fred August may SOUND like Jimmy because it's more or less a guy and a heavily-acoustic song. I've heard the original and it DOES sound like Jimmy but it's not.
I don't know "The Ass In The Hole." I do know Dennis Leary's a**hole song (handicapped people with handicapped faces) but this is neither of those.
The "I-95 a**hole Song" is basically:
Were you born an a**hole or did you work at it all your life..."

Here's the link from my previous link to listen to the song...

Judge for yourselves how similar it sounds to Buffett.
Is this what you have ShrimperDan? If so, it's not Jimmy. The very beginning "nearly cut me right off the road" sounds A LOT like him to me, but this is August on the 45 in KLL's picture.

Okay, after some extensive research here's what I've learned (again):
The song was written and recorded by Fred "August" Campbell under the name "August and the Spur of the Moment Band."
Despite the fact that lots of people THINK it's Jimmy, THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT JIMMY EVER RECORDED IT. Read through the alt.fan.jimmybuffett archives for the debate over and over again. Search the web - there's nothing other than average fans claiming he sang it -nothing from a label or interview or anything.
Sure, someone on napster labeled it Jimmy Buffett but that doesn't make it credible.
Yes, the guy on the original recording DOES sound like Jimmy. But it's not. Really.
The original WAS produced and engineered by Harry Dailey who, among other things, co-wrote Volcano and played bass in the reefers back many years ago. Maybe that's why it sounds so Buffett-ish.
And lest you think August Campbell is another Marvin Gardens' alias, the fact is that August Campbell is still playing the Miami club circuit.
If someone can definitively prove Jimmy recorded it (not just that you're "positive" it sounds like Jimmy") then bring the evidence forward.

FWIW Neil Rogers was the Miami deejay who started playing August's song and, consequently, got some FCC heat for it.Tiki Bar wrote:Here's the link from my previous link to listen to the song...

Well here it is, it seems I was wrong. I have never been told different in the 4 or so years I have had it.

Thanks for correcting me. Dont worry , I'll repay you.Hope this helps to settle it, but the tune was written by David Allan Coe. The most popular version was by Fred "August" Campbell and the Spur of the Moment Band.
The versions I've downloaded from Napster and other servers over the years that claim to be from Jimmy Buffet, sound identical to the August Campbell version, leading me to believe that the Buffet version may actually be August's version mistakenly credited to Jimmy and the Coral Reefers.

Even THAT page is wrong. David Allan Coe had no role in it.ShrimperDan wrote:

I am both amazed and amused by the abundance of debate over the I-95 song, but no matter who did it, I have always enjoyed it! I have to say it qualifies as legendary!
ShrimperDan's link brought back another fine quarter-fed jukebox memory in "The Rodeo Song"! We played the heck out of that back in the day, and it transports me back to many more great memories. That's gonna be playing in my head the rest the day I'm sure!
Next question... who has the entreprenueral(sp?) savvy to begin production on a cd collection of fun obnoxious good-natured foul-mouthed jukebox songs from the early 80's and throw an "explicit" stamp on it? I wish I had the know-how, the resources, and the energy!
... come on ya f***in dummies get your right steps right,
get on stage, goddamn jerks get off,
you p*** me off, f***ing jerks, ya get on my nerves!
well here comes johnny with his...
(if my mother knew I knew the words and used to sing along to this she would be horrified!)
