Proud Keet Moments

Post by Tiki Bar »

You know the ones...

My 4-year-old daughter got in the minivan, picked up a cd case with a shark on the cover and asked "is this Jimmy Buffett?" She doesn't know how to read yet, so either she recognizes the words Jimmy Buffett, or she made the shark connection! I told her that indeed it was, and she yelled "I want to listen to Jimmy!", to replace Kids Bop 3!

She and her 6-year-old sister also yell "Jimmy Buffett" whenever they see his picture or hears his songs... in stores, on CD covers or posters, online, and now Tiki Time Tour promos on the radio.

They exchange "phins up" gestures yard-to-yard from atop playsets with the other keets in the neighborhood... and they appreciate the fun outfits they see at phlockings, and don't think they're "weird" at all!

Both of them ask all the time if they can come to a Jimmy Buffett concert... hmmm, maybe that should be my plan for Chicago this year!

Keet moments

What a great story. My four year old daughter always wants me to put in Uncle Jimmy's cd when we get in the van. She really thinks it is her uncle singing! I am going to have to explain that one day.

Have a great day! 8)

My son Michael just loves to listen to Jimmy! It's so great to hear him sing along 8) He's gong to his very first show this year at Merriweather .....

My 2 year old, Savannah, makes that Jimmy connection .... she knows a JB CD when she sees one 8)

When I was getting ready to meet SS while she was in town, Savannah was jummping on my bed saying "Jimmy Buppett, Jimmy Buppett, Jimmy Buppett ....." cause I was in my M-ville sweatshirt. And in the car a few weeks ago listening to Fruitcakes she yelled "I mad as hell, and I not take anymore!"

My keets make me so proud 8)

Ahhh it's nice to see somebody else with keets that "get it" - Mine and HS's two think we're wierd and now they're poisoning the minds of our two grandkeets

Seems like the keets really like JB. The family and I just got back from FL and went to Margaritaville (Orlando) for dinner one night (guess what I had?). My daughter was hamming it up with our server, she kept her little parrothead menu on her face through most of dinner, he got a real kick out of it!

My oldest keet loved Maragritaville when we were there last year. He just thought the Volcano was too cool 8)

Savannah was still a little too young to know, but being a little girl nammed Savannah in M-ville, needless to say she was a huge hit 8)

Anytime any song comes on, my 2 1/2 year old asks if it is "Jimmy Buttee". She loves Fins, she actually does "Fins to the Left, etc", and the Oooooh, ooooh, ooooh, ooooh from "The City". She also says "Hi, Jimmy Buttee to the banner I have in the garage whenever we drive in."

Oh, it's moments like this that make me have to hold back the tears.

Both my boys love Jimmy, The youngest always wants to hear the "Volcano" song. They have worn out several Margaritaville t-shirts. I have made the oldest a CD with his favorate songs on it. It make this old heart feel good to know that Jimmy has touch yet another generation and that they will carry his name forward.

Alas, my keet is 24 now, but he's been a parrothead since birth. When he was fussy, I'd put on an album and he'd quiet right down. He could do all the SYKBH early on, too...and loved telling people about Jimmy's music. He even got the DJ to play a lot of Bubba at the prom.

He could do God's Own Drunk word-for-4-letter-word when he was about 4 himself....didn't know what the bad words were, but he loved seeing adults blush when he yelled out: I'M GONNA RUN EVERY G*****N ONE OF THEM OFF THE HILL.

Anyway, we've been through a lot of rough times in the last few years....but, last year, in Dallas, we were there together....and it was a moment in time.

God bless all keets and Jimmy Buffett, too!

My 3 year old Little Miss Magic Keet just had me make a Buffett
cd for her. She picked out all of the songs herself and had to have
Growing Older But not Up on it just for me.
She really likes Hey Mr. Spaceman with the Muppets.

I love to tell this story, so if you've heard it before, just tune out

I lived very near my sister and her kids when her kids were very young and impressionable, and spent lot of time with them. Their mom and I have always been Parrotheads. My nephew (about seven at the time) thought we were too weird, and would have nothing to do with anything Jimmy Buffett. My niece, however, was a couple years younger, and always BEGGED sis and me to play Buffett. She "got it" phrom the time she could talk. She thought it was really neato that my sister and I called ourselved "Parrotheads." One day, she announced to us that she was to be known as "Parrothead Junior" :D We were so proud! She's 18 now, and will be coming up to see the Nissan show with me this summer....Parrothead Junior and Parrothead Junior's Aunt (PHJRSAUNT).

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

These are some really great stories! Mrs. Twelve Volt and I will begin our family soon, and I hope we can teach our children to appreciate Jimmy's music as much as we do.
Today is the tomorrow you spent yesterday worrying about. Was it worth it?

I love all of these stories - each one warms my heart! Kids can be so dadgum rewarding!

By the time I got through to TM today, Chicago was sold out, but I'm gonna keep looking. I think it's the least I could do!

I thought my 23 year old was annoyed every time I chimed in with Buffett-esque comments, but now he and his buddy do The Wino & I Know as part of their Saturday night performances at a local bar. I guess there's hope for him after all!
