How many CDs should MMIM have been?

MMIM - why 2 CDs?

Post by EZ »

Just returned from my purchase and being somewhat impatient, went through most of the tracks, listening to the first minute or so of each. Having done that and determining that half the songs already appear on at least 2 other CDs each, why didn't Jimmy just do one CD with all the new/live recordings?
Maybe I'll get a better feel for the songs listening to them as a whole while on my 9 hour drive to Atlanta for Thursday's show, but that was my initial reaction.... Any thoughts?

I just noticed that Disc 2 is titled as Disc 1 on my computer, with all of the song titles from Disc 1. I didn't notice earlier because I was trying to get some work done while listening (like that was really going to happen!) Is anyone else having the same problem?

My guess is he's following the trend on this one.

Last year I bought the 2-cd "ultimate collections" of Elton John, Billy Joel, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, INXS, Def Leppard, etc.

For pholks not wanting to replace entire collections of old tapes and albums.

I also noticed a high pitched noise on the two live numbers on disc 1. It was very irritating. I think it may have been the steel drums, but I'm not sure. Other than that I think the songs sound great. I just love how he messes up the lyrics on pascagoula Run. Can't wait to try out the cd-rom portion of the cd tonight. :pirate:

And let's face it--this kind of package isn't aimed at hardcore Parrotheads who already have all these songs (but we'll still buy it anyway. )

It's designed to appeal to casual Buffett fans who want hits and the "fun songs." Just like how SYKBH has sold so many more copies than his other albums, in the long run, this one will probably sell better than it would have if he'd done just an album of new and live songs.

I think its supposed to attract both casual and diehard fans alike.
Thats why the live and new stuff is on there. Listening to the live
stuff though makes me wish he did a double live album instead.

I heard the noise also on the links that Radio Marg had. It was on one of the live songs.

I just bought it and i'm listening to Disc 1 now, and the songs sound great but i also heard that annoying sound during the live songs. Don't know what it was.

I didn't hear the sound you guys are talking about. I'll have
to listen again with a closer ear. All I've done so far was play
the album real loud in my car. Its finally warm and sunny on Long
Island and the release of the album must be responsible for it!

I think the annoying sounds are from the guitars. I made reference to them sounding like harpsicords on my "New Pirate Looks at Forty" post. Just listened to "Holiday" and it's there too. Very annoying. Can you imagine Jimmy playing harpsicord instead of guitar? That's a funny thought

Sounds like it was done during mastering of the song. Perhaps this printing was bad. I heard it on the windows media format from RM. Haven't made it to the other live tunes yet.

It DOES seem kind of weird the way it's put together....on the one hand, no you can't get too much Buffett. On the other hand, why re-release stuff that's been out for years?????

(on the other hand, you have more fingers)

I had the same problem on Disc 2 showing up as Disc 1. If you noticed on Disc 2 it knew there was only 18 tracks but gave info from Disc 1. I just renamed all the songs. I'm glad it was not just me.

Also, is this an enhanced CD. When I put it in my CD-ROM it say it is an audio CD.
