Hey everyone! I'm a brand new fan :D ...my neighbor is a bigtime PH, and has gotten me hooked. Especially with the Denver concert! It was incredible and I am just waiting for him to come back! Anyway, I loved the song he opened with but I can't find it anywhere. Is it new or am I just not looking hard enough? lol I would appreciate ANY help on this! Thanks! -Sheldon

If you're talking about "Great Heart" I think it's off the 'Hot Water' album.

And welcome aboard - stop on by the MSC inthe "Parrothead Social" area - that's where we hang most every day.

Welcome SB88. Not having gone to the concert or heard it on the Web I can't help you, however just wait awhile and I am sure someone will be along to answer your question. Meanwhile please come back often.

Great Heart
By: Johnny Clegg
1987
Travelling always increases the appetite for new music and I found Johnny Clegg tapes in the south of France and was immediately hooked on them. I'm glad there are still younger artists who write and play their own songs that I wish I had written. This is one of them.
(chant)

The world is full of strange behavior
Every man has to be his own savior
I know I can make it on my own if I try
But I'm searchin' for a great heart to stand me by
Underneath the African sky
A great heart to stand me by

Chorus:
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
To hold and keep me by
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
Under African sky
Sometimes I feel that you rarely know me (sometimes)
Sometimes there's so much you can show me (sometime)

There's a highway of stars across the heavens
There's a whispering song of the wind in the grass
There's a rolling thunder across the savannah
And a hope and a dream at the edge of the sky
And your life is the story of the wind
Your life is a story like the wind

Chorus:
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
To hold and keep me by
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
Under African sky
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
I see the fire in your eyes
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
That beats my name inside
Sometimes I feel that you rarely know me (sometimes)
Sometimes there's so much you can show me (sometime)

(chant)

Chorus:
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
To hold and stand me by
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
Under African sky
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
I see the fire in your eyes
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart
That beats my name inside
Sometimes I feel that you rarely know me (ah... sometimes)
Sometimes there's so much you can show me (ay yai... sometime)

That's how I discovered Clegg. Buffett's music has allowed me to expand my listening enjoyment.

A different Great Heart question...

I haven't been able to listen to any of the shows yet (computer sound is still screwed up, thanks to Dell  )

So I am wondering... does Jimmy do Great Heart this tour with the "correct" lyrics (Guk a 'mzimba Sala 'nhliziyo) or does he sing that Boom box / Capezios version he did in '2000?)

It is really nice to go back and listen to the versions from each city. He sometimes says "under (that city's) sky."

I listened to Atlanta again and he talks through part of it and then he and the Reefers/Reeferettes just mumbled and stumbled through the next part of that.

So...he still did not sing the (Guk a 'mzimba Sala 'nhliziyo)

In Houston, my recording was all jumpy...he does better, but still stumbles. (I loved hearing this as an opener while there. Houston was such a varied setlist.)

Nashville is quite a bit clearer, but the words don't sound right yet.

Dallas starts off with "the world is full of strange behavior in Dallas, Tx" and he goes into the capezio sounding :( Dallas felt like a strange performance to me from the lawn (my own personal YUCK), but I still loved the show.

Denver is a little better, and clearest on the very last stab at it.

It never sounded quite like the words on Hot Water cd.
