Love in the Library

How much do you know about Jimmy? There's probably something you don't know.

I always thought it was NOLA, but apparently it's Mobile. But also supposedly those two streets don't come together. :-?

Mine, too. I think it's one of the sweetest songs I've ever heard.

I saw a thread about those two streets meeting. I don't remember which city (I think Mobile), but someone did come back and say that those two streets run parallel.

The Mobile Library is on Government.

My wife is a librarian, so we HAD to visit there!

This is a great song. Did anybody think that maybe this library doesn't exist and it's just in Jimmy's mind.

Love in the Library always makes me think of Harry Chapin's Old College Avenue
since both are wistful ballads about remembering young college loves...
and they both seem to focus on addresses.

It makes me think of the musical "The Music Man" and Marion the Librarian.

How so? What did you say - I think that's pretty awesome. I've always loved that song.

I'll have to read your reply when I get back on Monday or Tuesday - I'M OUTTA HERE!

I believe the lyrics go "On the corner of government, and bay avenue, the old doom's day fanatic..." Am I right???
We sailed from the port of indecision
Young and wild with oh so much to learn
Days turn into years as we tried to fool our fears, But to the port of indecision I returned.

I didn't see the response. It was at the end of the ceremony...actually after we said our vows. The minister just incorporated some of the lyrics into the final closing words. Isn't that sad I don't even remember?

I agree there was some poetic license there, it's just a block away from S. Bayou St. Bayou/Bay...hmmmmm

or a few blocks over to Water St. too. Maybe he was so twitterpated by the girl that he forgot where the library was exactly.

buffet's love

i have no idea whether or not there was any one particular library that Buffett was talking about, but i apparantly have a different take on his 'love'... My take on the song was that he was not talking about a woman, but rather him falling in love with the 'surreal and sublime' stories he was surrounded with... It's pretty obvious that Buffett is both intelligent and imaginative, and for some reason, that's just how the song came off to me :-)...

if anyone knows differently, please let me know... thanks...

Love the song.... I worked thru college working in the library and I've been askin' Mac for years to play it with luck. :(

I should have asked him about it when I was talkin' to him at MOTM...

Anyway, a phriend of mine asked him why he wouldn't play it for me, since I am his Personal Stalker ;)

He said.... that Jimmy came up with all the lyrics and the music but he just couldn't make it work so he asked Mac to take a look at it. He did and sugested some minor changes. Mac said that was the last he heard about the song and the next thing he knew it was on an album and he was a co-write.....

So, the reason he doesn't play it is because he doesn't know it.....

I think he sould start practicing ;)
