Squash..

Mom and Dad gave me a couple of butternut squash
I have never been a big fan but I hate to see food go to waste
so I tried a couple of tricks while cooking them in order to see if I could learn to "eat my Veggies"
I sprinkled dry ranch dressing over one (with butter)
and .. Taco seasoning on the other and baked them..

I found out.. it's not the taste.. it is the Texture.. like Pumpkin pie.
I can't stand the feel of it in my mouth..

I wonder how many things we dislike fall into this Category

of feel VS taste..

That is exactly why I don't like squash or eggplant. I can tolerate some types of squash cut in matchsticks, seasoned and grilled. This makes them a bit crunchy. But I don't even like breaded and fried squash or eggplant or parm.

I LOVE squash, I usually just bake it and put some butter on it and resist the urge for the brown sugar or maple syrup. I also have gotten the hang of spaghetti squash and sometimes have that instead of pasta under meatballs or other kind of spaghetti sauce..
Eggplant? The only way I like it is eggplant Parmesan, which I rarely make because it's so messy to make and SO fattening........ however yummy.

Squash baked with butter and cinnamon...YUM!

But I totally understand the texture thing. If onions are cut very thin and cooked, I can eat them. But if they crunch in my teeth, no way. And I can't eat fruit with skin...aaaack! Tomatoes....GAG! I've gotten a lot better over the years, but there are still a lot of things I won't eat simply because of the texture.

I can't eat peaches unless I peel them first. If my first bite misses and my teeth skim over the fuzz.........ewwwwwwww "shudder"

I had a pasta type recipe from Taste of Home that called for Spaghetti Squash but I never got around to making it. Maybe next season.

How 'bout a zucchini squash thin-sliced into medallions, with grated cheddar and jack cheeses and chunky salsa poured over top,
cover and baked for 35-45 minutes (depending on if you like your squash firm or squishy!)

Goes great with grilled chicken or fish and spanish rice! :P :P :P

Yellow squash cut up like french fries, salt and peppered, dredged in corn meal and fried. Yum, yum.

being raised in California and picking them for summer money
a few times, I don't like them at all
