Tim Krekel

Post by conched »

Every time I listen to itunes on shuffle and hear Tim Krekel, a former Coral Reefer who has passed on, I am reminded how much I love Tim's music.
I also enjoy Marshall Chapman's (Perfect Partner) talent.

Marshall does I Love Everybody and then Tim does State of Grace:

This is a really special recording. Here is a comment made on youtube

Well first off he was one of the most talented people you've ever had. Then what made his legend was he played for us just about a month before he died.can u imagine knowing you're dying but still wanting to make others happy? We were smiling and crying at the same time. I've always hoped you all recorded him and malcolm that night.

I've posted about Marshall Chapman, Krekel, Keith Sykes and various other former members of the Coral Reefer Band before (and I have even posted that same clip previously) but for whatever reason a lot of these musicians are criminally overlooked. Yes, there are other folks here that are aware of them but it seems like it's only a handful of us. I also realize that the Coral Reefer Band has had a wide and varied membership over the years which makes it next to impossible to keep up with all of them but if one ever finds themselves wanting to dive in, there is a lot of music there which is ripe for discovery. Not to mention, many (if not all) of them are as deserving of the same amount of attention that Buffett himself receives. Tim's son Jason plays in a band called the Mad Tea Party, which they recently shortened to just "The Mad Tea" for obvious reasons. I'd been aware of Jason's work for quite some time but didn't see him in concert until just a few years ago when the Mad Tea Party did the opening honors for Southern Culture On the Skids at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, NC. Though their music may not be everyone here's cup of chowder, if you're a fan of SCOTS' musical jumbo, they may be right up your alley. They bring a bit of the tropics to the table but perhaps not in the same way folks here are accustomed to, it's definitely closer to the brand of edgy psychobilly that SCOTS deal in, fueled in large part by ukelele.

That video of Tim singing State of Grace with Marshall was new to me. :) :(

This version of State of Grace is interesting too.
