  • Both RM and Marg TV lost the audio feed for approx 3:32 from Cheeseburger In Paradise into Scarlet Begonias. This was fixed by replacing the missing song segments and trimming the banter between songs.
  • There was a feed drop of 2 seconds during Havana Daydreamin.

Hey there, Sunlover, as always, a big tip of the hat to you for knocking this out every single time. I've always wondered, when the feed drops out, and you post something like this...

Both RM and Marg TV lost the audio feed for approx 3:32 from Cheeseburger In Paradise into Scarlet Begonias. This was fixed by replacing the missing song segments

...what do you use to replace what's missing? I'm assuming you pull from another show - how do you decide what source material to use? Just curious for curiousity's sake.

You are correct. Usually, I pull content from a previous show of the current tour. I try to match the audio quality as much as possible, so the replacement segment is not too obvious. For this tour, the audio quality has been fairly consistent, so matching it has been easier than before. In previous tours, the RM audio has varied from being very good stereo with wide or decent L+R separation to "okay" stereo with minimal L+R separation to mono audio. I believe the improved audio this year may have something to to with the launch of Marg TV.

The tricky part is matching content that Jimmy has local references, especially the in-between song banter. Localized versions of Coconut Telegraph, Margaritaville, Brown Eyed Girl, etc can be hard to replace, depending on the missing segment. For example, in part of the lyrics to BEG:

Sometimes I'm overcome thinkin' 'bout
Makin' love in the green grass
(Maybe a local reference here...)
With you, my brown eyed girl

I would not want to replace a lyric that includes, say, "Fenway Park" when he is playing Jones Beach. That has happened a few times.

With last night's Jones Beach show, the songs involved (CIP & Scarlet Begonias) don't normally have local references, but I did lose all his banter between the songs. For that, I just trimmed what I copied from the earlier show, so it's not identical (and it did have local reference to Philly).

Sorry for such a long answer, but that is the process I use to fix missing song segments.

I heard Jimmy say that they use satellites for Margaritaville TV transmissions because venue Internet wasn't always good enough. Easy to deduce that they use the same audio feed for RM and M'ville TV. So, I'm sure you hit the nail on the head there.

Sunlover,

thanks for ALL you do! great job man, great job. We were at the concert and it was a good one for sure.

Has anyone heard about getting the actual video of the concert in one way or another? I'd even pay for that in a second!

You can grab the video that coasterghost posted at the link below. Note that the video feed suffered the same audio drop for about 3:30. Also, the audio sync is a bit off with the video. With this show, the video was not archived (like a DVR), so it was a one shot chance to capture the show.

They definitely needed a reliable uplink for video, so satellite is the way to go. They could not count on the venue internet to stream HD video for a subscription based service. You can blame the raccoons only so many times.

It's interesting that both RM and Marg TV lost the audio at the same time. The video was still going during the audio outage. That kinda suggests there was a problem from the soundboard to the audio portion of the uplinks.

I've been home since Friday night but I finally got around to downloading this show. Thanks again David for everything you do recording all the shows. Great job.

And maybe I missed something, but does anyone know who that Leon guy they were talking to on the Bing & Bong show was? [smilie=noeyedear-shrugging.gif]
what I really mean . . . I wish you were here
