Once, back in the good old days, two men were digging a hole to bury a dead jackass.  The young new schoolmarm came across these two workers and asked them, "Are you digging a well?"
One of the men replied, "No, ma'am."
"Well, are you digging a cellar?"
"No, ma'am."
"Are you digging" — and here she blushed prettily — "a hole for a privy?"
"No, ma'am, not that either."
"Well then, what are you digging?"
The first worker turned to the second and asked, "Do you want to tell her or should I?"
