Is there any chance of the Irvine show being posted?

CoasterGhost,

First of all, thank you so much for the Alpine show and this one! I know you're really busy and thanx so much for doing these for us!

BUT (and there's always a 'but', isn't there?) I'm just wondering - while I've successfully downloaded (all) your shows in the past, I've tried to download this show from 3 different computers and 2 different geographic locations, but when I try to play any of the files, I get about 33-45 seconds of silent black screen, then it stops playing. It would seem that either something is corrupting the file on the way or the file on Mega has become corrupt, unless I'm missing something? (ALWAYS a possibility, no matter how obvious it may be to others.)

Any suggestions are appreciated (be nice.) Thanx!

It's possible that the file has some issues with it or it could be your software. It plays fine in VLC Media Player for me, but I don't test it in other programs. Try another program first, and if it continues, I can attempt a fix on my side.

CG, my bad, I should have also mentioned that I:
- in addition to saying I downloaded from 2 different geographic locations, I should've added that I used 3 different Windows machines and 2 different browsers (IE & Chrome)
-I tried using Windows Media Player on 3 different machines (Windows 7, 8.1 & 10 OS's) AND VLC player on 2 different machines.
-I just now downloaded the file again (4th download) for giggles and tried 2 of the 3 machines and all media players again and got the same results: It 'plays' (black screen, no sound) 33-45 seconds on Windows 7 machines, 'plays' (black screen, no sound) indefinitely on the Win 8.1 & Win 10 default players (Xbox Video player as well) and VLC flat-out refuses to even try to play it on any machine.

I can play the Alpine show and all the others on all these machines using either VLC or WMP with not even the slightest problem, so I think it's something to do with the downloaded file for this show, whether it's getting corrupted in transmission or what, I'm not sure.

I'd be happy to try something else if you like - and please feel free to pick this up another time if you're busy, no worries.

Thanx for all your help!

Hi,

Thanks so much for all your work. I am also having difficulty with the Red Rocks link. Downloaded twice and attempted to play on two different machines with VLC. All other shows have worked fine, but this one seems to load and then shows just one frame and then just stops. Won't do anything for me after that. VLC does't show any error message. It just stops almost like it had completed the playback. Occasionally if I advance the time on the time line it will show one more partial frame, then nothing. Has anyone else had problems?

Both Systems Win 10 all updates and driver revisions current.

**UPDATE**

Tried playing from USB Stick inserted in Blue Ray Player and seems to work. Will watch straight through and update here if it does not. Still no luck with VLC and Win 10. So happy to have it working anywhere! Again thank you. ...hope I can get it running on PC, but thank you.

**UPDATE**

I had a similar problem with the Key West show. I used Handbrake to convert it to a .mp4 and I had no more problems after that. I think it has to do with there not being a "timecount" in the code. I have no idea how to edit this, but I do know that a conversion fixes this.

You might also be able to use VLC to convert it from a MPEG to a MPEG, if that's the format you want and if you are well versed with VLC.

Actually I did try to run it through VLC's convert function. I thought I knew VLC pretty well, and have had success with other video files and pictures that would only open in VLC. Just converting to the same format seemed to fix the files so that they would open everywhere. Very good program! This video just seems not to exist for VLC. It tries, but creates only a O byte file, and then it dumps out as if it is finished with no errors. I have no experience at all with HandBrake, but I'll certainly give that a try too.

Thank you for the reply!

Jerry

Handbrake is mostly a DVD/Blue Ray to MP4 converter for dummies like me. (You have to have the .dll file to overcome the copyright) But it will also convert a MPEG to MP4. It actually interfaces with VLC, but you don't need to do anything with VLC other than have it. Handbrake is easy to use, VLC is not so easy to use.

I downloaded handbrake and ran it. About the only thing I changed from the default was selecting 720p instead of the default 1080. This only because I figured that converting to the same resolution might cause less of a quality loss.

It did produce a file the my PC will play!! Yea! There was a little quality loss. The original ts file looked and sounded awesome played from the USB stick in my blue ray player. This one looks and sounds OK on the little screen and headphones. Having worked with audio and audio files for many years I know that attempting to re-compress an audio file from one lossy format to a different lossy format is ...well, ...well, we audio gurus have a technical term for it. We call it "a bad thing. :D " There has to be the same thing going on working with lossy video formats.

End of game though, It worked. Thanks so much for the recommendation. If I ever figure out how to make the original file play on PC Ill be sure to post it back here. Thanks again,

Jerry

Great! I'm glad that worked for you. I discovered Handbrake on my quest to find an easy way to convert DVDs that we own to MP4 so they could be played on a portable device, or streamed from my PC on Apple TV. All you have to do if find the ".dll" file on the interweb that helps you overcome the copyright. Works like a charm and is easy to use for computer dummies like myself.

Just an update. I downloaded TSDoctor. It found and repaired what it considered to be errors in the original .ts file. Not savvy enough to understand what all the log files describe, but I saved the logs in case anyone is interested. The original file now plays everywhere. Unfortunately TSDoctor is a paid program (it does have a generous trial period) and no doubt includes many features I would never use. BTW the process took a very short time, so no trans-coding was done, just revising headers or something similar.

Hey Darth, TSDoctor is what I normally use for it anyway. I am looking right now at an alternative host for the files. The youtube issue has been fun to investigate.
